I tried the typhoon in my genesis today and it sucks.
too much boat for the motor.
It's slower than stock and gets too hot.

I have run this set up lots on 4s2p very reliable everything stays cold.
It runs a constant 40mph and last 15-20 minutes on 5000mAh packs.
I have not tried 5s to see if things stay cool.
I would imagine it's just a matter of finding the right prop combo to run 6s and keep the heat down.
The only thing I modified to make the motor fit was the motor.
I cut around 5mm off the shaft as it was much longer than stock motor shaft other then that it bolts right in.
I should have my Genesis this week and I am going to try this motor out in it as well.

Have you tested the boat more with this setup?
How many cells do you recommend for a trustworthy boat? Is 6 cells too much?
How long run time you will get with this setup?
Was it just to bolt the engine right in or was it much modification?
I wish to mount the same engine as you are in a Genesis, but is unsure how many cells and how many mAh I should run?

Look for a Forerunner 101-301 or Foretrex. Nice, small and simple. That's what I use. I'm still trying to get my Apparition to break 60 reliably...Originally posted by Graeme View PostI think that with a small gps I could probably get there the one i am using weighs more than one of my lipo packs.
where does one buy a cheap light gps from ?
I am loving this set up I bought the typhoon for the surge flusher and never installed it before I sold it.

I'm not so sure. More like 55 I think.Originally posted by Graeme View PostI wonder if I can break 60 with this set up will have to try a smaller prop and a smaller GPS.
Running T180 CC/Neu 2650Kv on 4s w/440 was 58mph (39k RPM) and had to go up to 8mm motor bullets. I melted the solder connections on the Castle 6.5mm bullets. Probably could have gotten 60 w/442 but kept breaking the drives... Too much RPM.
Depending on your lipo weight and I think the Typhoon is lighter... might get close to 60.

the other thing I changed was timing from 11.25 deg to 15deg
not sure if that had an impact on the motor heat or not

on 4s it runs a sold 43mph and cool i think it will be a good reliable set up of 4s
my gps is too heavy and causes a bad list so it's probably more like 45
I definably need a smaller prop for running on 6s motor temp was 150 esc was 80.
and something was smoking I am hoping it was just the 4mm bullet connects. I have larger ones on the way.
anyway here is a video on 6s it flys

I wonder if a 38mm prop would bring the temps down just a tad on the motor, and maybe even let it rev out a bit more...........may end up being as fast but cooler............????
