P mono 55+mph set up

hi guys do any of you have a suggestion on a set up to run in the p mono class that will run 55+mph? the mono I have seems to be at its limit around 49mph. I was looking at the scorpion hull from aeromarine. But I would like to know what you guys are running or would recommend

I run a Rico very stable at those speeds. The DF Cyberstorm would also be a good choice.

I've seen a Scorpion 21 run mid-50s. I run there with my Titan 40 with a Neu 1521/1.5D and 4S2P cells. It requires good cells and a good rigging but it is entirely reliable. Several of us in the club run the same setup in different hulls with similar results. If you run in rougher water, a deep vee is probably a bit better. On smooth water, a shallow vee may be a skosh faster.

It's made by Rico Racing. I personally have not gps'd my boat. My boats setup with a Neu 1521 1.5d on 4s2p. There's a few guys running these with good results.

That rico racing electric looks cool. At 2.8lbs for a 31" boat I take it that is with some hardware, or flotation, stringers? I wonder what brings it to 2.8 lbs?

The 20 mono is 2.5 lbs with stringers, tank tray and radio box.

That is incredible, mid 50's in a 31" FE mono! How cool has this hobby gotten!

those do look nice we run with a bunch of nitro guys down here they seem to be going about 49 mph so if I can get an extra 5mph I should be in good shape.

Here is a quote from an article written by John Finch published in the IMPBA Roostertail, December 1997. This article discusses mono setup in good detail... While the article is a bit dated and is discussing nitro mono classes, I still believe that this holds true today, even with FE.

"In todays heat racing scene, a 50 MPH Mono is capable of winning races in all four engine classes. The fact is that most Mono hulls clocked at big events are only running 45 to 48 MPH. They look like they are going faster, but that is only because they are not trimmed properly. The boats that look slower, because they are trimmed properly, are the ones that are going faster and winning the races. So, the first subject to be covered in this series will be that of running hardware on the boat and how it affects the trimming of the model."

I do not disagree, too light and it will fly off. But I would rather add battery weight. Hull weight is not usable or adjustable! I would rather have a 2lb hull with a 1/2lb piece of lead or extra battery capacity to be moved around than a 2.5 lb hull. On a 31" boat, you can get plenty of strength in a 2 lb hull!

I remember racing gas and nitro in the 90's. We found the easiest way to slow a boat down by 10 to 20mph was to bring out a radar gun! That 60mph boat just slowed to 40! My zenoah mono was clocked at 47.7 just after turn 4 at a race. it was fast, I just couldn't drive!

I wonder how fast they are running now? I get mails from people claiming 70's, hard to believe gas mono's are running 70 for a serious sport boater or racer. Will have to look up some data on that, different site.

I run a 1515 1Y, Hydra 240, 4s2p Hyperion 5500 35c cells, and a M445 backcut approx. 1mm in my 31" Rico.
Tuning for rough water I'll add up to 1 lb. of lead which brings it's weight up to 10 lbs 5 oz. but she finishes races.

My Titan is a full-weight nitro layup and I still have to add 1.5 lbs of lead at the chines to keep it down. Running with other P Monos I can usually run full throttle the whole course with GPS speeds in the 50s recorded in actual race heats.

Even with the same top speed as nitro boats, an FE has the advantage. It is easier to nail the start, and acceleration out of the turns is much better. If a nitro boat is ahead of you, stay on his tail and wait for him to go a bit wide on exiting a turn, then shoot through inside. Works 'most every time - as long as he makes a mistake. Most guys will when pushed hard. They can't do this themselves without risking a flame out from your roost.

No the hull weighs that much. If you ever get to see or hold one you will see that it's built like a tank. My rtr weight with 4s2p is 10lbs.

Wow, those speeds with handling is awesome!

I am only sport running, so I build lighter to use low power and extended run times when running with my boys. Lets me use cheap batteries. Setting up boats for three or more people isn't always easy with other hobbies.

Nice to see how you guys push the envelope though.

Well it sounds like a Titan or a Rico so far keep it coming guys this is great stuff. I know the other FE boat runs 47 on GPS and he was just a mile or so off the pace thats why I wanted a bit more power.
