Here's what I read about heat problem onanother forum

Well in my short time with the Shockwave 26 I found that the coupling attaching the motor to the driveshat was actaully touching the metal tube the shaft goes into. Metal on metal is never good. Mine would still spin but the drag was huge im sure and the tube got extremely hot along with the esc and it just stopped after about 4 min. After I installed a Trinity Chameleon 19 turn motor in I mdae sure to leave a little room between the tube and the coupling so there is no rubbing.

Also the driveshaft bacially had ZERO lube from the factory. Which will cause binding and of course heat. You need to remove the shaft and lube it up good along with the short propeller shaft too. Use Marine grease. $2.00 at WalMart in as huge tube. Will last a lifetime. Hope this helps

thank you now I know that I do not need trim tabs but which turn fins would be the best for this boat to help with the spinout problem. how long do they need to be to be really effective and reduce the spinout problem???

I agree - it's a nice looking boat. You only need trim tabs if your boat's nose is bouncing up and down

I understand that they are not the greatest hull but I think it is fun in stock form and would like to get a little more speed out of it just to see what I can get from it.

I need them Because it has a bad problem with spinning out so I thought that a set of turn fins would help that, and yes it is the newer version. I am also going to put a bigger prop on it so I would like to get the spinout problem fixed or at least greatly improved before I do. if I was only racing (turning right) I would not worry about it but I dont race so I would like it to turn decently in both directions.

I am thinking about the kyosho ones that include the trim tabs that steve sells on here but I really dont know if I need trim tabs. Then again I could always just make some of my own.

I got 16.6 MPH out of mine (Submerged drive)with a miss bud prop; a Johnson 63706 motor and 7 GP3300. The AJ are great but they really only in the 20's 22-25 MPH GPSed

I tweaked mine all for a measley 15mph....don't expect too much more.....they are unstable hulls. Buy a Cen AquaJet from this site with the 775 motor and you'll see twice the speed for $30 more........or if you got twice the cash get one of the BL RTR's !!!!!

I hate to interrupt but I am looking for a set of turn fins for my sw26 and was wondering which ones of the ones that steve sell would be the best for this boat. I just dont know which ones to order. oh and maybe some good trim tabs also if you think they are needed.

Why do you think you need them? Do you have the newer version of the SW26? If so that boat seems to turn real well from the videos I've seen.


evofan74 - is the shaft still sizilling after you sanded and lubed it and ran the smaller prop? When you had it out did you roll it on say a piece of glass to make sure it wasn't bent? the Shaft should be one of the coolest parts because it's in the water to cool it down, and if's it's getting hot the that seems to me a friction issue. It can't be a volts or amps issue.so if there is friction there then I would guess that would make the motor work harder and draw more amps producing heat and also increasing the heat from the ESC.
A cheap way to maybe double check this is just go buy a brass rod from your local hobby store you got this stuff at and make a new shaft and see if the heat issue goes away?

evofan74 check the alignment between the motor and the shaft. Also check to make sure the shaft isn't bent. When you put it together, the shaft should slide right into the coupler. You shouldn't have to push on it at all.

Maybe you already did and you already know that, but just in case...

I think going with thte smaller Octura prop actually hurt the speed too and didn't help with heat. So I am going to try a little bigger than stock prop.

I need resolve this heat problem, because it's keeping me from running the boat....

If going to a smaller prop didn't help it get cooler - then going to a bigger is a mistake and add more stress to the whole unit producing more heat - IMHO.

Hey mocars well I have since lubed the shaft really well with marine grease (everytime) and I buffed the shaft down with some very high grit wet sandpaper. I am using a 19t Trinity Chameleon now and an Octure 431 prop and running on 7cell IB3600. Still haveing heat issues though. Can only run 3-4 mins at a time WOT. I think going with thte smaller Octura prop actually hurt the speed too and didn't help with heat. So I am going to try a little bigger than stock prop.

I need resolve this heat problem, because it's keeping me from running the boat....

I actually haven't done anything other than run it. It seems to be working very well. I get plenty of run time the way it is. I kind of wish I would have gotten the 19 turn motor though. The 22 turn barely gets warm and I think it would be faster with the 19 turn. In spite of that, it runs great for what I have into it.

I have one of these and I dremeled off the bottom piece and had the shaft actally go out the back about 1/8" from the bottom. I used a Traxxas shaft and tube and a 45mm carbon prop - did alot better then what I see yours is doing.
What have you done to it lately.

I would pull it apart and check the alignment of the motor and shaft. Mine is completely different, but I have heard other people mention that as a possible problem. It sure couldn't hurt to grease it while you have it apart.
