Possible re-intro build

well...im back....and the hull's in so i can finally get started on the build....

i should start ordering parts soon...ill see if i cant buy most of the things in one shot so i dont have to pay shipping several different times...

Well ive ran into a problem with the battery pack for the boat....it seems the IB3600 (or 4200) are no longer carried by the store i was planning to buy them from....

they do have Elite 4000's.....are these cells any good?

im begining to wonder if i should just buy a Lipo pack instead....two 2S's ran in parallel to make it 2s2p....or a couple of 1S's ran in a series (although that may make it a bit too light)...extra weight is a concern for this boat, but i does need enough to keep in on the water...

the charger im planning to buy ( http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...lancer/Charger ) is Lipo capable....and everyone else seems to be running Lipo....

So now i guess the question would be:

Should i run 2s2p or just 2s...and what would be some good lipo's to use?

Would a couple of 2100mah 2S's be good? paralleled they should have a 36C constant, which should be enough to handle what the motor is asking for....

also, what would be the equivalent of an X435 in a carbon prop? Boatman suggested this as a good starter prop, but i would rather use carbon props until i find the right one...alot cheaper to replace and not much is lost if their the wrong size....i will have to get a shim however....

Edit: Nevermind about the carbon props....did the math and found out i would need a prop with a 35mm diameter, but it seems the only ones that are that size are meant for threaded 4mm shafts....guess ill have to go with the 435...

Feigao 8S motor, watercooled mount (the regular one was out of stock), and drive hardware has been ordered....though ill have to wait until next month when Steven gets back before its sent out

still excited im finally getting the build started....Other parts as well as the ESC should be ordered not too long from now either....until then i can get the drive lined up and the motor mounted....

Great News!

The motor, mount, and drive system has arrived today. Thanks Steve for the good packaging as well!

Its too late tonight to do any work on it, but tomorrow i will align and mount the drive hardware and try to lay the ply stringers down in the hull for more structure.

Also, the rudder seems a bit short, but well see how it handles in the water before i make any conclusions

Ok heres some pictures of the gear. Ive already got the holes lined up and marked on the transom for the strut. Im mounting it a bit low to make up for short rudder....good thing octura makes their struts really adjustable or i probably wouldnt have been able to do this...

and sorry for the blurry pictures, the lens i have on it isnt really meant for closeups...

Ok, got the drive hardware mounted. Its not easy to get it square as the hull is uneven at the top, but i tried to square it using the two rails going down the hull as a reference. It looks pretty straight by eye as well, so i think it should be good. Also, i did not have any washers that were small enough to use on the mounting bolts, however i did find some slightly larger nuts that worked just as well.

Ive got a new idea for reinforcing the hull...i will run the stringers perpendicular to the keel line down the hull, like ribbing. And i will section off the areas where the the feet of the motor mount are and tack it down with JB weld at first, then pour in epoxy to fill in the rest. It may be a different way to reinforce the hull, but it should work well...and since im using ply, it shouldnt add too much weight.

And for those who couldnt pay attention long enough to read all of that, a quick visual diagram.....

Edit: forgot to add to the pic: - Ill probably have ply stringers still going down the keel betweem the ribbing as well.

Ok, well i got all of the stringers in. Im waiting for them to cure completely, then ill use a little JB weld to hold the mount in, then fill in the rest with epoxy. I can also assemble the flex shaft, but ill wait until i can buy a coupler before i do much about the driveline....

Well i tacked in the motor mount (after checking a re-measuring it to make sure it was mounted stright) with a few dots of JB weld. I also had to JB weld a few of the rails too...i didnt do a good enough job of sanding the area where they were epoxied and they started to come loose...couldnt get any pics as the battery died on the camera....recharging it now.

got some stuff in from Steven (thanks for the fast shipping) and now i have the driveline all ready to go...thanks to diego as well for the flex shaft, that saved me a lot of work too

im probably going to visit the hobby shop for some small things like pushrods, epoxy, and some glue syringes (so i can more evenly disperse the epoxy for the motor mount as well as any other use for it...i did a pretty crappy looking job with the JB weld so this should keep it more clean)....im also going to need to buy a new soldering iron before i can do any of the wiring....but besides that and buying the batts, its almost ready to hit the water
