Sniper 45" Driveshaft height above keel

Finally got a Sniper and am ready to start mounting parts. This is my first mono and I'm not sure how high the shaft centerline should be located above the keel. This will be a 8-10S T-mono local club and maybe regional race boat.

Hey Mike,
In this case, I do a flooded stuffing assembly and a strut rather than a stinger.
I’d allow for 1/4 to 3/4” height adjustment, to account for different prop size and/or water conditions.
Let us know if you need some explanation or photos.

Wow that much adjustment? A little late for that setup I have a stinger already...maybe I'll return it. I have seen the flood tube and strut setup and understand how it works.

But please provide further explanation on how height is adjusted for water conditions and any photos. I searched here quite a bit and most photos don't show this in detail and there is little discussion on the subject.

I think this much adjustment is the max and if you don’t have experience with a particular hull, this allows for a wide range of props and finding out how loose/wet you feel most comfortable driving. Some boats like the transom deeper than others.

I have poked fun at Jim V when he would bring out a boat with a stinger and he couldn’t go full throttle due to blow over risk.

Stingers are sexier... but only while on the shelf. I’d much rather have the ability to raise the prop without remounting a stinger, especially at a race.

Not too long ago someone made a comment about a percentage measurement, from the bottom of the keel to the center of the drive shaft, for a starting position, to drill the shaft hole in the transom.

I can not find it on the forum, and I forget who made the comment.

Jesse is right about that. I flooded tube and conventional strut is always the best arrangement on a mono. Certainly more exotic fabrication is involved, but the adjustability is priceless.

You can likely capitalize on that epiphany Mike. You’ve certainly got the skills!

It is done. I had to try the TFL adjustable stinger so machined a jackplate to allow adjustment with the flood tube. It spaces out the stinger just enough for captive nuts in channels behind.
