I got my hull ( hotr Cat ) and all that I need to put her together but I'm wondering if the amp draw would be too high for my esc (BK Warrior 99/20) with a X440 prop? the motor is a 8XL.... I purchased the esc about 5 yrs ago and never took it out of the bag, I just hate to see it further go to waste.

About 2 weeks, maybe a bit more right now because its getting closer to X-mas. China mail service has slowed since Sept.

I ordered mine on a thursday and it was here the next wednesday. and it came regular usps mail. being that the shipping was $40 bucks I wish I had ordered 2 or 3 of them.

I see a Graupner ARROW there, they are a nice boat when you empty it out and put in BL. I had one until someone drove through it.

You' re right Ray, the ARROW was fantastic, very nice loking boat, a small Apache .
20 celles and Plettenberg Ultra 1600 Marine.
Here' s the Key Biskayne I built after the Arrow,
The Arrow had a gearbor 1.5, more torque and very high speed with K57 propeller

Thanks to everyone that had some input to this thread.
I got my hull and OSE parts a couple of weeks ago and was going to send it all away to let someone else build it for me. The only thing that stoped me from trying my first build was the stuffing box. well the more I looked at it the more I thought "I Can Do It", so I did!
I started getting it all together, checked, checked and rechecked to make sure everything was perfect and the stuffing box was off a few degrees from the motor and coupler. I would have to either drimmel the epoxy away or cut the stuffing bow about 1/4 inch and re-angle the motor, well the drimmell job without my safety glasses on got me a quick trip to the ER to get a tiny brass shar removed from my right eye!!! Back to my boat, I got her all done with no pool noodles to put in, I must have went to 15 diff stores in the area to find some then I thought the foam they shipped the hull in might work, not only did it work but I have enough left over for maybe 2 more boats.
I charged up my cells and in the back yard I went. She was fast but a lil bouncey so I raised the prop about 1/4 inch and away she went, back and forth about 20 laps she would hop a little coming out of the turns but boy o boy it was fun! I finally pulled her back in remembering that my esc had no shut off on it, ripped of the tape to find NO WATER, the esc cool to the touch, the motor maybe 90 degrees and the cells just warm. I though not bad being that it is 45 outside today.
I went against the grain with what everybody else was doing with the setup because of spare parts that I had laying around. Such as a X440 prop instead of the X642 because I had a 9920 BK warrior esc and didn't want to smoke it, but the motor is a 8XL. I didn't put in my GPS or watt meter, mainly because I couldn't find them but the boat was plenty fast enough! ( maybe low to mid 40's ) The best part of the day was when a neighbor said man that boat is fast, where did you buy it? And my chest stuck out so far I thought I may have cracked a rib or two when I replyed "I Built It"!!!!!

Yep...done the eye thing...now I always at least wear reading glasses....so I can see :)

Nice job. I usually mount my stuffing tube first know it will go up the center and I have enough room in the floor cut to do a little aligning. I then mount my motor so it lines up perfectly...maybe I have always done it bassackwards but works well for me.

I will finish my CC maybe today...just needs plumbed and some connectors on the 8XL and she is ready for water.

Considered my 12 XL and running 6S... Easy change. Just not sure that hull can take it if she goes in the air.

well done tuslow, when you put togethor your first build or 2 they mite not be perfect but there is that added satisfaction of knowing you built it.
thats the problem theses days with so many rtrs, more so with cars than boats, people dont know how to fix anything as it is already togethor when they brought it.
but now you have built it pictures

Kids just came home so I want to shoot a quik vid, I went to charge the cells and those 20 laps took off 3525 of the 5000 mAh on tap. making me think the amp draw can't be higher than 30 to 45.

you need to resize your pictures to 640x480 pixels

Just about finished my HOTR cat, just have to get the battery hold downs in and its ready for the ice here on the ponds. Hardware is: Medusa 3680/2000 kv, Turnigy 180 esc. I used the rudder that HOTR sells but switched the strut over to a Speedmaster 21 strut. I found it easier to fit a 1/4" brass stuffing tube with teflon liner and the Octura .150 flex shaft. The motor mount was made by Peter Zicha.
