Nicely done Slick. She certainly looks the part.
Looking forward to the test runs.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

        First run

Finally the weather and time was available for the maiden. It looked fast and handled well with a M545 prop. Didn’t skid or hook even in tight fast turns. May be running a little wet. Balance is at 30% so may try moving the batteries back a bit. May try adjusting the prop height too. I put the GPS in for the second run but the ESC would only beep every 2 seconds with no throttle or steering. Turnigy 180A. Tried to re-arm and re-set throttle position but nothing. I will get some GPS speeds and try the M645 when I get it fixed.

Actually I had run the boat for the second time but forgot the GPS. Brought it in, opened up, and set up the GPS. (plugs into the receiver) I never disconnected the batteries. After fiddling with it for a few minutes the esc then started beeping every 2 seconds and nothing. Tried unplugging and plugged back in. Same thing. I just plugged it in to see if I could trouble shoot it and it worked fine. Works with or without the GPS. Any ideas why it didn't work at the pond? It was barely warm.

When things don't work I have figured out it is usually me doing something wrong. When I brought the boat in I must have turned the transmitter off. That is exactly what it does if there is no signal. I guess in the bright sun I didn't notice the display on the transmitter was off. Double Duh ---

Actually my SK180 does that when the receiver isn't powered up or connected. Doesn't seem to care if the transmitter is powered on or not.

                Speed tests

Went to the lake this morning and with the M545 it went 49.2. Both motor and ESC were 125 degrees. Tried a M645 and it went 46.2. ESC & motor 155 deg. I had moved the batteries back about 1/8" but still looks like it is running too wet. It is a leopard 4074 2000Kv on 4 cells.

So with the M645 it went slower, built more heat and probably drew more amps as well?

10" or slightly more cg seems to work good on my pursuit. It will do less but tends to be a little wacky in anything but glass smooth water. Have you tried an M445 yet? I wouldn't be surprised if it broke 50mph but cooler and more efficient, with longer run times and easier on the batteries.

                      That is correct.

Thanks! I have a M445 that runs super on my stock Lucas Oil at 47.3 mph. I will give it a try on the CyberStorm.

Can you walk me through the materials and process for building and installing the flood tube? I think I want to do something similar on my 32 mono.

There are some pictures earlier in the thread. I used a 3/4" x about 6" thin aluminum tube. You could use carbon fiber but I had the aluminum from an airplane wing tube. Hold the tube on the outside just up from the bottom to allow for the bottom thickness and draw around it. Put masking tape on the transom so it is easy to draw on and helps protect the gel coat. Then drill a slightly smaller hole in the middle. Next open up the hole with a dremel or file so the tube just slides in tight against the bottom. Next you need a plug with a hole in the middle the size of the shaft tube at the motor end. Some guys make one from aluminum or plastic with a lathe. I am a wood worker and have a wood lathe so I laminated 3 pieces of 1/4" marine plywood. Drilled a hole and mounted it on the screw mount on the lathe. I turned the outside down so it would just fit in the tube. Use CA or epoxy to install the plug in one end of the tube. Next drill a hole just large enough for the drive tube though the hole in the middle where the lathe screw was. Then install the tube tight against the bottom with the open end flush with the outside of the transom. I used epoxy. I heated the brass tube and let it cool slowly to make it easier to bend. Side the brass tube in from the back and make a slight bend so the drive shaft meets up with the motor. Cut the brass tube off at the back so it mounts in the strut. Once the strut is mounted you can slide the tube back and forth a little so it is tight in the strut. Support the brass tube close to the motor. To seal the brass tube to the wood bushing I used a little silicone glue (Shoo Goo) on the outside. No water leaks and is easy to get the silicone off if you have to replace the brass tube.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm only sport running, but I'm building this hull up from bare bones, wanted to give this a try and have adjustability if needed.

                                Weight

I didn't get a chance to run it again trying the M445 prop but I did weigh it. 6 lb 2 oz without batteries. With 2 3700 4 cell Zippy Compact 60C batteries that weigh 1 lb 14.8 oz (both) = 8 lb 8 oz total.
