Delta Force 33 Cyber Storm build log and questions

Looks good, but you may find the batteries in the rear a problem.
I tried that with my df 26 and it did NOT work well.
Different hull I know, but when I moved them forward it behaved like a proper boat.
Interested to see how it works out

I could be wrong but I was thinking it didn't mater where the components are, just so the boat has a CG of about 30%. That is my starting point but I can slide the batteries forward or back to change the CG 10% either way.

        ESC mount

I used a carbon fiber ESC mounting plate. I mounted it with JB Weld off to the left side to offset the weight of the servo in the right rear. The ESC is installed with Velcro and a zip tie around it.

          Hatch locks and flotation

I have had a cowl blow off with just tape. I decided to mount this one mechanically. I bought 2 of the 530B33 twist hatch locks 35mm. I noticed there is no seal around the shaft and water could just run right down it. I removed the set screw in the end of the shaft and the cross pin. Next found an O-ring that just fit the shaft snug. Then installed the spring, a thin washer, and the O-ring. Applied silicon lube and put it back in the housing. The housing has a recess that looks like it was made for an O-ring. Reinstalled the cross pin. It slides smooth and is water tight.
The hatch is very flexible and since I wanted flotation anyway, I installed 2 carbon fiber rods in a cross fiber glassing the ends. Then a couple pieces down the sides. I mixed 2 part foam and poured it in the bottom tilting it around so it came up fairly even around the cross braces. Now the foam can’t pop loose and the hatch is pretty rigid. For racing I will tape it too. The old “belt and suspenders”. I am not sure it this was a good idea or not, guess I will see -----

            Servo and linkage

To mount the servo I propped it in place and used a thin straight piece of music wire to line up where the hole in the transom should be. Drilled a small hole just big enough for the wire. I slid it in and found it needed to go up about 1/8”. Drilled another small hole and found it was in perfect alignment. Next drilled a 15/32” hole through the small upper hole. Installed a short piece of aluminum tubing from a deceased heli tail boom. An Aquacraft boot fits it snug. The linkage has plenty of room to move around. I wrapped the servo in wax paper and put it back in the mount. Then glued it in with JB Weld using a balsa wedge to hold it in place until it cured. I removed the servo, wax paper, and installed it permanently. The rod is 1/8” carbon fiber with titanium ends and captured ball links. It moves freely with zero slop.

              Plumbed and wired

All plumbed and wired. The GPS is attached with Velco on a shelf so it sits level. I put the water outlets toward the front for short outlet tubes and so I can see if it is flowing.

Ive read your whole thread on this build. Its a very nice build. I can not see what cells you are using except that they are Zippy Compact approx. 3000mah each. What motor are you using too?

To LUCK: I think he can get away with the batts far back because they are approx. 3000mah each only so, they are light compared to some of us using 5000mah pairs of 4S packs.

Thanks! The batteries are Zippy Compact 3700 4 cell 60C and weigh 15.4 oz each. It balances at 30% with the batteries further back than in the picture. If I get heavier batteries (5000) I can move them forward to balance. The motor is a Leopard 4074 2000Kv.

The linkage rods I have used on airplanes for years. Don't know if they ship overseas or if there is a distributor "down under". https://www.centralhobbies.com/subca...ub=124&sub2=46

Nice setup. I still have my CStorm to build up into P mono. I'm a bit lazy and use my DF33 for both P-Spec mono and P-mono (open). I just swap out motors and esc's. It's about time I get it built though.

I'll have a trim tab question soon if my tabs are same size.... Yep, they are same size. What is the distance from the outside edge of the steel tab to the the little corner of the hull, not the edge of the hull but, that little corner of the lip of the outer edge. The real term eludes me... outer strake?

Maybe I should just read the advice someone posted here for you. I've built many boats but, monos I have the hardest time setting up for some reason. Cats & Hydros I'm fine with it seems..

                              Trim tab position

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I am not sure if this is “the” perfect place for them. I positioned them there based on looking at other boats, a diagram someone posted, and advise from the boards. I sort of took the average and installed them. Also it was suggested to keep them 2 – 3 mm above the bottom. Not flush with the bottom. I also had to put the steel plates in a vise and bend them a little sharper so they contacted the bolts without pointing down.
