Inconsistent turn suggests inconsistent force. Perhaps it hooked because it grabbed more? Longer rudder?

Inconsistent force is what we thought as well. We thought maybe the fin was flexing, and when the boat made it to the apex, the fin would spring back and cause the hook. Not the case though. I will do some more testing on Saturday.

Did you mess with the position some more?

Still calling for crap weather tomorrow. Maybe we'll dodge a bullet.

The more I think on it the more I want to increase that depth we were talking about. How hard would that be to do?

It shouldn't be that difficult, 'theoretically'. I could just add the extra material to the frames. However, the angle of attack of the recovery pads will be greater, and the 'interface' frame might need to be customized. I'll send you a text. The greater angle of attack will probably help it plane quicker! Might be an all around improvement.

How much extra depth are we talking. If I remember, it was about 1/4" extra??

Oh, and....yes....the fin position did in fact correct the turning problem! ...but I'm too lazy to make another bracket and fin (just yet).

If you didn't find that the turn fin was the cooperate I was going to suggest pulling the rudder back (tilting it). Alot of the time the transom isn't able to keep up out of the water enough and it digs in and can cause a boat to hook.

I thank you greatly for this advice when I buit my Q last year. Itruns well!
You added depth to your sponsons too didn't you?

Prop splashing water against rudder is not good either....so I use longer prop shaft support so that prop spray does not hit rudder.

Well, it turns out that everyone on earth knew that a flat inside sponson works better than dihedral! We ran it today after the modification and there was no predictability issues. No hooking. Ran great. Why it took me this long to realize, I don't know! Apparently Blazer, ML, and Phil Thomas has this on all of their boats!!! Well, I can tell you first hand, it works!! I have a direct comparison of [3deg on both] to [3deg on left and flat on right]. The latter takes the cake.

                  Kenny took a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FQG...ature=youtu.be

It's probably not much different than the original video, but from a drivers persepective, it was MUCH easier to drive.

BTW. Lap times were: 11.84, 11.53, 11.80, and 12.52. They don't mean much since our course is undersized, but those are pretty good considering, and I wasn't even close to lane 0.5 where Terry drives.

Looks a bit faster too..thought you were headed for that drainage pipe/tunnel on the left once you took off..

Nope. There's only one man that can hit the drainage pipe, and he has YOUR BLOOD flowing in him!!! hahahaha!!!!!

I've got an Island on the pond I practice on down here. I've beached one of my boats twice on it. Hence the nickname Capt D-Day...

Man, his ears were burnin' huh???!!!

Yep, the trailer saved the day. There was sideways rain. Horrible. I said "John, I don't think we should go out there, it looks really bad, even Tom is packing up his stuff". He replied "You don't know me very well". Then he hooked up the batteries and taped the cowl on anyways. I tell ya what......if the storm had been one minute later, we woulda been out in it!!!!

Yeah, let him tell you about the time his son got to walk out in the middle of the blue heron lagoon for his boat out on Belle Isle. Back in the old nitro days. I walked out half way across that sucker even found a sunken row boat but luckily no bodies!!!
