      This stuff was recommended to me as good way to protect the esc and brushless motor from water.

      After a little bit of googlin' it seems that it is really a matter of opinion as to what is the best way to waterproof the electronics. Many different brands and methods being used.

        I haven't used that product myself, but I know its a 50/50 shot conditions depending. I use spray on plasti-dip, to waterproof the circuitboards in all my receivers. It works awesome .....

          Today I ran another static test with the edf airboat. With the cooling fan mounting on the esc I was able to reduce the avg heat by 24* F.
          However, in the process of holding the temp gun and ramping the throttle I managed to get my fingers sucked into the edf. I sliced a finger tip with a portion of my nail clean right off.
          Not as bad as it sounds, just a nick really but definitely a warning and a reminder about edf safety.

            No what this means is you should quit playing with static tests and put this thing in the water and see what it will do!!

              I am not surprised that the OP was able to measurably reduce the ESC temp with the fan even in the closed hull. I use fans on several of my ICE aircraft controllers inside enclosed boat hulls and they work well. The larger the enclosed space the better the fan works. My ICE controllers work fine up to 200 F although keeping them under 150F is recommended. That is the logged internal temperature NOT a heat gun reading.

              Static thrust tests are almost worthless for airboats. They give no indication of speed or realistic amp draw/heat since the fan will unload somewhat when the boat is moving. If you HAVE to perform extended static tests tie the boat to a table leg or fence post and keep your hands away!

                Lol ya keep the hands away is key! Just kidding.
                We had a foot of fresh snow here the other week and I really wanted to try it on there. I didn't have the boat ready in time before it all melted away.
                I really just use the heat gun readings as a safety reference when bench testing. Afterwards I plug in the castle link to look at the actual data from the esc. I haven't found a way to post images of the graphs yet but I wanted to.

                      The starbucks cup reduced the area by 20% but it didn't quite fit the wemo shroud. I will have to go out and get a slurpee cup or some milar from the Office depot and try again.

                        My finger grew back like if I were a starfish... so I am back at the workbench.

                        Today I installed a sealed rubber boot on the deck near the transom. This will allow the motor leads to come out to the fan.

                          I've made up a battery tray that have some wiggle room for shifting the CG. It will have a velcro strap around it at the cut out notches.

                          I'm also trying to devise a method for attaching the battery cover. I got some fiberglass sheet and cork mat. With this I made this gasket that will line the inside of the hole. The cover will sit upon this.
