CAD ????Originally posted by ED66677 View PostSimon did you draw this baby an a cad software? this might be interresting to share!!!
My computer skills are based on net-surfing, e-mails...........................um????.....That's about it.
This one was sketched with pencil onto a large piece of card on my bench.
By the end of the build the card has coffee and beer spills on it, lots of cut marks from a hobby knife and is generaly very tatty so then goes in the bin.
I mentioned in a few other threads how I do my drawings and it seems to work for me.
I hope this does not come out wrong:
I believe if you can build a boat from scratch then you can draw your own too. Try it. I did.
Sorry guys no plans for this one.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

With that said I CAN draw something that will give the basic proportions and the angles that I have used.Originally posted by Simon.O. View PostSorry guys no plans for this one.
I have only run it once so far and it looked good. The weather here at the moment is @#$% so it will be a few days until I can get some more runs and start to tune it and find the sweet spot for the CoB and strut angles.
I believe this would make a good mini 15" to 18" if you have the right BL and lipo setups.
At the moment I am still a 05 can and Ni 6pack fan so my build are based on that power and weight.
My Cat, Hydro, Tunnel, Rigger, and now Canard all have the same power system but different props.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

I had the Canard out for a couple of good runs over the last few days.
It hauls !!
Setup is as per original design.
Tamiya Superstock RZ 23t can
6x Camelion 4000 mAh cells
Futaba MC230 ESC
My wire drive to a Octura 531 prop.
The strut is still set so that when the boat sits on its 3 sponson rear edges on the table the strut is flat on the table.
This puts the shaft a little above the sponson trailing edge.
I am inclined to put it down a little as on the Cat I found that there was an amazing change in speed and handling when I lowered the strut there.
Back to the Canard
Acceleration is awesome. The nose lifts up to 30-40 deg and it leaps out of the hole straight onto its sponsons. It runs absolutely flat with the front sponson just riding on the water and the rears dance about similar to my rigger. Well that is not unexpected as the sponsons are designed very similar to the rigger.
On the straight it still has a tendency to slide the rear to the right. I smoothed this out a little with the temporary addition of 2 small fins on the rear of the sponsons.
These are now off and I will go for a single fin in front of the rudder to try to keep this thing in a straight line. Out of a turn it takes a few meters to get top speed again and then it gets all excited and fair chatters over the water. The lift in the rear is self-regulating as I expected. Too much lift pulls the prop out and speed comes off. This occurs in a cyclic event at high frequency so gives the appearance of a chatter.
Cornering, well this is the strong point so far. WOT and full rudder can be done !!
With the small temp fins in place it has a turning circle about 15’ wide. I would suggest that on an oval circuit it would eat similar powered tunnels simply because it is fast enough to go wide on the turns and basically just run around the outside of a course. I have a nice 6-cell tunnel so I am happy to make this comparison.
It is not as quick as the rigger but is much less of a handful to drive and looks fantastic on the go.
I will start on strut adjustments this week and will be back with more reports as soon as I know more.
Build yourself a Canard………..you will not regret it, believe me !!See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

It stopped raining for long enough today for me to get to the pond for a good dose of speed.
I packed the Hydro, Rigger, Canard, Cat and tug in and went for it.
As proposed I reset the strut a little deeper so now the shaft is a little below the water running line just like on my cat.
The results were as expected. The nose goes even higher when I punch it out of the hole and it cavitates less on turns.
Speed appears up and the side drift may be a little less.
I removed the fins from the sponson rears and now it drifts in the turns, it is a real hoot to drive
I am convinced that it needs a fin in front of the rudder and will get one on in the next few days.
I had the chance to try a 534, 531, and a 431 prop.
No surprise the 31mm props are better I have to now choose between the 4 and 5.
I have some glitching issues at the pond and am undecided if it is RF from the big mill there or my gear that is the problem.
Oh the joys of AM gear.
Anyway this Canard IS a success for me and I have seen something else that really gets me excited.

It would be very quick to actually sketch it and post it. I'll see how long it takes for mail to get from here to France.Originally posted by ED66677 View Postplease Simon do me a favor, sketch by hand this baby and send it to me, I'll cad it and share!!!
The other option is to send a set of dimensioned photographs, I can do that o.k.
In addition I can do some basic line work on the computer in word and send that too.
Give me about a week and I should have something useful for you.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

CAD it and send it to me. I'll shrink it to 400mm and put out a laser-cut kit for SSSH! Maybe even with the same straight-shaft (cheap) arrangement I'm doing on Randy's hull.Originally posted by ED66677 View Postplease Simon do me a favor, sketch by hand this baby and send it to me, I'll cad it and share!!!

I will start with a general 3 view drawing in metric, then scale to inches, even if I'm familiar with it, it will be easier for me!
