Excellent work your doing, and the design is very cool. Nice enough you should make them available to others! I look forward to seeing this complete and on the water. I love the workshop, how you keep it so clean for that type of work is worthy of praise.

Thanks, I have always been kind of a clean freak. Luckily I moved out of that apartment and into a house. So now I have half of a 2 car garage for my composites lab. Which is the only reason I've started making progress again. I just couldn't handle fiberglass and carbon fiber getting all over living room any more.

I hope the boat performs well. I am doing a 50" P1 fountain build an figured I would try something different next but if your boat becomes available in carbon fiber... I would like to be at the top of the list for one. That's got to be the best looking mono hull design I have seen, looking forward to see it progress, will you have it on the water this season?

I am going to cut the hatch out of the deck once I get to that point. I know this is not ideal, but being my first build I wanted to keep it simple.
Most likely I will attach a shelf under the deck for the cut-out hatch to sit on top of. For that I could use aluminum strips or make some more carbon and just glue it on. Hopefully I don't end up biting myself over not having that in the original design.

I have no doubt you'll be able to cut the hatch out nicely based on your previous work. Hopefully the area is flat to make your life easier. Any chance of seeing some more of your computer rendered version of the boat. It would be nice to see out of the water, the transom, bottom and front view. It's tough to see all the details done in carbon. Are you happy with your computer rendered versus the final result? I just want to see more! I look forward to seeing this updated, the more pictures and lots of detail would be much appreciated and I know others would enjoy that to. If your busy no worries, just wanted to ask.

Here is some new vacuum infusion tech for ya, MTI hose.
It is a hoze you use on the vacuum site that prevents resin from entering the vacuum line, but also dost clog. So, when resin flows to it, it stops, and will continue to flow to other areas. You can actually calculate ho much resin to mix!!
A composite professional friend told me about it, says it works super well.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I just started my first post-college engineering job a couple weeks ago. So I've had to go to bed earlier, cutting down the internet time.
A lot has happened in the build. I made a new hull mold because the first one had some serious voids and pin holes. I tried to fix it but in the end I am glad I just made a new one.
I used resin filler this time to fill in the steps and strakes. It mixes into the resin and turns it into a peanut butter texture. Then I laid the fiberglass over that, and the mold turned out great.

And finally, almost a year after I started this project, I pulled a hull.

This was just a test though. It's 4 layers of E glass, cheap and easy to make sure the infusion process works with the mold.

On Sunday I pulled the trigger on the full carbon setup. 6 layers of cf with 4 layers of glass in the middle, same as the deck.
Interesting thing with this hull however is I did a hybrid wet and infused layup. I put the putty filled resin in the steps and strakes again, just like I did with the mold. However this time I laid the carbon over that and then did a normal infusion. The result was fantastic! It filled all the fine details in nicely, while bonding to the infused resin like it was the same mix.
