The bolt holes in the motor mount need to be enlarged, and a recess filed into the mount for the larger screw heads.

Also, any thoughts on a cheap radio to pair this with? I have an old pistol from my days of running cars, but I'd like to get something nicer ish... 3ch, model memories. If I go 2.4, it needs to be compatible with spektrum/JR ideally, as that is what I will use for my planes (and I assume the plane 2.4 tx can control a car rx)

Not yet, but I should within a few days.

I plan to convert to 2.4 gig radios soon, I have Airtrix and Futaba computer radios that may come on the market soon.

Possibly, however a mono hull does not necessarily need such complicated structures to make it stiff. Maybe some stringers, motor mount, transom doubler, and possibly a forward bulkhead would be sufficient.

Well, I have 14+ planes, so the 2.4ghz conversion for me will be quite expensive.

I plan on buying 2 hydros and 2 Mini P's. Are the S. Cat's worth getting? Is there anything special about them that I would miss out with just having the MH and MP?

I know what you mean about airplanes. I have a few more than 14 of them...... I'm not ready to switch them to 2.4 just yet. I'm "Down-sizing" my boat fleet (in more ways than one ) to make transport and storage a bit easier, and I can switch them over to 2.4 relatively easily.

Ya, good to know you feel the pain as well.

Honestly, I'm looking a the new JR 12ch. Just cause it has swappable modules, but the modules take in a digital signal, unlike all other module radios that output analog and rely on a 2.4 module to make it a digital signal.

Ya, it is expensive, but I want to be able to step in gradually, and that means I don't want to buy a specific 2.4ghs radio that I can only use with a few planes... one more radio to forget...

That depends on what floats your boat, so to speak. I prefer cats and hydros, and the MSC is a great handling cat hull. It corners like it is on rails, handles chop well, and according to Randy, is capable of almost 50 mph on smooth water.

I have no plans to sell mine.

It looks like fun my mini is 16" max long (oops I broke out of your size requirements) but will have loads of fun none the less. I do Rather like your storage methods or transport do you have a shelf for your boats to display on? oh yes I like cheap too it opens the sport up to more folks on a budget (if they even have a budget!)

Don't sweat the size. My MHZ Miss Madison is 17-1/4".

I do keep the bigger boats on a shelf. My 1/16 scale Finlay hull lives in a glass display case (someday I'll finish it).

Will it end up being faster on a single drive? I like the twin idea since it seems that you can lower the center of mass significantly, but 2 systems means double cost

maybe I'll buy two of each mini hull and just go to town.

The twin setup is limited by prop selection. I could possibly get more speed if I was not limited to just the X430 L&R. That said, I just bought some slightly larger plastic counter-rotating props for those ebay toy boats to try. $5 for two props is worth testing.

A single could be made to go much faster than my twin setup, I did twins because I could, and to see what happens. For zipping around the pond, it's a great boat. For racing, I would have done something completely different. Putting hotter motors in the twin would mean bigger batteries, more weight, less room, and so forth. I'm happy with it the way it is.

I just received an email from the laser guy and sent payment for the next 9 sets of frames. They should arrive sometime next week.

Are you already able to put together a package that includes the little goodies (like this stuffing tube that I still don't quite understand)?

If not, I've got nothing against buying the rudder and turn fin from Joe separately.

I'm going to try and get bearings from the guy at rcbearings.com. He knows his stuff, the quality is great, and the prices are awesome (might be worth checking with him about larger quantities).

It may be just as easy for the builder to get all the assorted metal bits separately. The bearing is a 2 mm I.D. x 5 mm O.D. flanged bearing. Only 1 is needed.

I'll put together a package of just the wood bits and the CF stuffing tube. It looks like my cost is about $15 a set, so let's just say $20 including shipping and PayPal fees covers my costs.
