The stuffing tube is a carbon fiber tube that houses the 2 mm driveshaft and holds the ball bearing at the prop end. It is the black tube in these photos.

I put that teflon in the stuffing tube to reduce the possibility of the shaft "wobbling" while running. I was playing around with the prototype #2 shaft, and the teflon causes some minor drag. Not much, but it is noticable. I'm going to do more testing tomorrow, and I will try it without the teflon. Anything I can do to make it cheaper and less complicated is good.

I'll let you know how it works.

No. I tried that already, and the motor shaft/coupler provides sufficient support for that end of the shaft. I did see (actually, I heard) some wobble when running at full speed out of the water, but I think it will be fine when it is in the water and under a bit of a load. The problem with a bearing at that end is the alignment must be perfect. Just a few thousandths off and you have a load on the system. I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know how it works.

Great news! A big box from the laser guy showed up at my doorstep today! God how I love the smell of burnt wood. I grabbed a set of frames for prototype #2, plus a couple for the SLOBS. I packed up a set for Joe and one for Randy. That means I have four sets left. I wonder what I should do with those.

Dr.J, do you think the hydro could hold up on the 5000kv motor? It seems like the power system has a bit more to give, not sure if it would be better to bump up a cell from what you are running or go to a higher kv.

I ran the H&M Micro Shovel on an Aveox 1005/2Y (5000 rpm/V) and 6 round cells. It did more "Space Shuttle" imitations than I wanted. It was a handfull, and not that much fun to drive. WAY overpowered. That motor may work on the MTH hull, but I can not say for certain, as I have not tried it. The setups I have worked out run right at 125º to 135º. Adding another cell would probably raise temperatures to unacceptable levels. This power system has enough go to blow the MHZ hulls off the water. Lastly, there might not be room for a 3-cell pack under the deck.

Space shuttle... nice analogy. Maybe it would work better on the MP since the hull is deeper. I can understand the airborne issues with a hydro or any other hull that doesn't make a lot of water contact. Get the hull to bounce just a little bit and you catch a wall of air and up and over you go.

125 and 135 with the 300kv? That's a bit higher then I got the impression you were running. Still not bad, but a tad higher.

Looks like I will have to break out the wattmeter.
