    JAE FE21 Build Fiberglass

    This is my first rigger so I thought I would document the build and also ask questions along the way. Here are the pics as the boat came from Eric. I was lucky enough to get 1 of the 2 made on his second batch.

    You can see I am test fitting a 2200kv Castle motor I have. I think I have a water jacket that will work for this motor, but will have to check.

    I actually already have a question. The stuffing tube is already glassed in as you can see. I need to run a tube inside a tube basically. The tube that fits the strut will not fit through glassed in tube, so I guess I would need to solder a slightly smaller tube to the one that goes in the strut to make it all work. I am betting there is some other better way to do this?

    And a few more pics...

    The good news is also I may have a person to paint this boat and finish it. Turns out one of the guys I work with has a buddy who builds surfboards and actually made a mock up of a landing module for Nasa with fiberglass at one point in his life. Needless to say, he might be able to put a good finish on this boat. But that will come later....

      A 1/4" Brass tube should fit through the strut and the stuffing box. If not you should ream the strut to fit a 1/4" tube.

        Hi electric,

        IYO, will a seaking 180 be able to fit in there? assuming water nipples of ESC are modifed with a 90 degree water nipple

          Thanks Eric, the strut is fine, I will take a look at the stuffing box again now that I know that you designed it to work that way.

            It just so happens I have one of those handy. I will check it tonight and see if it does or not. Will take a picture of it.

                I think I know what might be your trouble. I block sanded the bottom after setting the stuffing box it may have folded the tube over around the end. If you use an xacto to debur the tube the 1/4" brass will slide right in.

                  Success, a little work with a needle file did the trick. I was able to get the 1/4" tubing in. This weekend I should be able to get most of the set up work done.

                  I also included pic's of the 180 esc. I think with a little trimming around the opening I could get it in there. Remember, this is a fiberglass version of the JAE Rigger, so I have no idea if it is the same size as the kit.

                  I am actually going to start with a 120 amp esc I have that should fit easily and see how that holds up.

                    Changes to the water nipple and alittle trimming around the tub area should fit. thanks for the pictures. it will benefit to those pple including myself!

                      The build continues. Seems like the new struts are different than the ones pictured at zippkits. Improved I think, because you have a two piece mount that allows you some room to slide the strut up and down to fit properly. I also found it interesting how the 1/4" tube goes through the strut completely and then the sleeve fits inside the brass tube that is in turn inside the strut.

                        Epoxied on the piece underneath, then the same for the wood that goes over the fiberglass. Just got though doing a whole lot of sanding to blend the wood and fiberglass piece together. That will do it for tonight.

                            watch out because that castle/neu 2200 will eat a 120 esc right away. i ran a 1415 neu 2200 and used the t180 with a different water cooling plate and it worked well. properchopper has some tips on one of his insane hydro threads on using 90 degree fittings that would also work.

                              Looking good Electric. I got one of these from Eric as well, so I'm watching your thread with interest.

                              Just a note on the ski, the wood should be in two pieces. The long back section goes on first, then the front of it is sanded to match the front of the ski (glass part). Then the front wood part is glued on with a slight overhang - just like the front of the sponsons. Download the instructions from Zippkit and it shows what I'm talking about.
