Wrapping DF Cyber Storm 32 around 1717

Hey Bob, I feel for Ya' ! Funny thing is, on the maiden run,quite some time ago, with my Cyber 32 I had the trim & CG way off & blew it over. Same thing; hatch lost some serious gelcoat. Ate some major last week during the H20 Gassers race when I stuffed it while I had a sure win in hand. { mine's the Red boat}

What has to be learned by all of us, especially the " Let's overpower it and go really FAST " crowd, ( and I'm not referring to you in any way), is that once speeds approach that 60 mph level, the water somehow mysteriously turns to concrete, and the carnage starts. Now, after four days of fixing/painting, my Cyber 32's sporting some new paint/graphics which I'll post in the build thread today. Stick with it Bro, it's a really nice build but that's only half the project. Geting it dialed in takes some time and patience but well worth it in the end

I try to do as little work as possible (especially electrical work) but it payes the bills. I hate work.

I had another problem with my boat. The rear bearing in the strut went out. I don’t know why this happened. The prop was balanced well. I will be rechecking prop for balance but I know it is balanced. I was going to do some testing of some prop tip cupping pliers I made. The plan was to run the boat with prop uncupped and get a control gps speed then bring boat in and tip cup the prop and send boat out just a few moments later with same batts and see what the gps was with tip cupping the prop. I put an x645 on my boat that I don’t care for or about and was going to be my first guinea pigs for a real world test of these pliers. The gph showed 56mph with uncupped prop. When I brought boat in to remove prop to cup it I noticed a lot of play in prop shaft because the bearing closest to prop was ruined. The only thing left of the bearing was the two races. I store the shaft out of boat and just installed the piano wire before this short run and did not noticed anything wrong with bearing at that time. I only have about 5 runs total on this boat. The boat was running great and showed no ill effect from running like this. When I got the strut I did not like the way the seal on the other bearing looked and was watching this bearing. You can see in pic the yellow seal part of the remaining bearing damaged. I would think the bearing should last longer than 5 runs. I know the drive dog gap was fine because the inner race of the bearing kind of welded itself to the prop shaft with a gap still between the drive dog and the inner race. I guess I will contact Jeff Wohlt and see if he has replacements bearings for his 3/16” ceramic bearing strut which is what this one was. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestion from keeping this from happening again or should I just bush out with brass bushings and go that way?

I call these tip cupping pliers. These piers work quit well at putting a cup on the tips of the prop. It seems to me that there is no real good definition for cupping. What a lot of people refer to cupping I believe a more accurate term is spooning. I also made a hammering prop cupping/spooning jig that work quit well that I used mostly now instead of the piers. I would suggest you try a hand at making you own. The worst thing that will happen is you will learn from the experience.
