Here's what I'm seeing that is constantly requested, but rarely found;

1. Hull/hardware kit for Twin or Single; motor mounts, stingers, drives, etc. DIY kit.
2. Hull/hardware kit for Twin or Single; motor mounts, stingers, drives, etc. Hardware Pre-Installed

One thing that is NECESSARY is to convert the cabling systems to 4.76mm (3/16, .187) to work with standard props and replacement cables available in the states.

TFL Hobby make the powertrims for the GENESIS twin setup but I' ve never seen those hardware parts in a web shop.

Alfa, those are 80mm and HOR has them. They are on eBay.

No FighterCat57, there are 2 models from TFL Hobby with the same design a short 80mm long and a 110mm long specially made for the Genesis, here is the short one, you can see the difference:

They are in the process of designing the long version, it has not hit production yet.

Based on the discussions I have had (as personal friends and NOT a business associate or any type of dealer/distributor) I believe this would be possible. I am keeping my friends MarkF and Properchopper in the loop on all of this. I am only a novice in FE but thru my need for advanced marine technologies I have found myself in the loop of FE...and love it (much to the dismay of my lovely wife)

I have the dual stingers and Leopards mounted in a Mean Machine and will attach some pics later. I sketched out for them how they could do a unique dual mount for the Genesis with one un-bolt to grease the flex shafts....... and they are considering it.

I mentioned to MarkF and Tony is an e-mail that they are just nice, normal people trying to make a living. In order to do that the price has to be right to penetrate the market. YES, they can add dual 4074 Leopards nice water jackets, carbon fiber motor mounts, dual 180 SeaKing ESC's. adjustable 4 MM stingers with brass prop selections..................BUT just the hardware cost for them alone is about $440 and does NOT include the Genesis. How do they compete with the same boat that they are providing to Hobby King ?

Many factories in China are learning that if they sell to HK, they totally kill their worldwide market and in the end, they lose...big time. Unfortunately, TFL learned this lesson the hard way and the people there tell me they really regret their decision to sell to HK.

Nearly all the Chinese factories are on the mainland, not in Hong Kong. Shipping from the mainland is outrageous whereas the Hong Kong shipping is subsidized to help export businesses. So ordering direct from the factory is going to involve much higher shipping.

TFL is a good company and their products are quite reasonable. IF they included motors and esc's of good quality though, you would see the prices skyrocket. There are more just sport/hobby boaters than actual racers. The former is who the RTR factories cater to. Serious racers usually build their boats from the hull up.

They'll need a distribution point in the US or Hong Kong in order to compete. The shipping from mainland, like you said, is a deal killer. Ocean freight to California is the typical approach to distribution to the US, but takes quite a bit of time.

I'm trying to convince one of my manufacturers right now to set up a warehouse operation in the states. They bemoan the fact that the US market doesn't buy from them very much. They really don't understand the US Market at all, which is 'we want it cheap and we want it now!'

Hitting the market is easy. Make it cheap, make it upgradeable. Sell the base models at cost and mark up the accessories to recoup the cost of making the base.

Making an entry level base that is solid and upgradeable is key.


Then, there's the Starbucks approach. Coffee $.50? No, Coffee $5.50. Build expensive models with exclusive parts. The high end market is always lucrative.

Yes indeed. While FE is a great hobby for me and I hope I can assist others, I am really hear in China for "Starbucks". One of my long time Chinese friend, a brilliant electronic engineer, just produced worlds smallest high resolution wireless video camera. It can be used to transmit from within the body high quality color images at 30 frames per second at 10X the resolution of current endoscopic devices. Just think of it, we can trasmit live video from a FE that runs in our bathtub to our 60" HK Sony LCD in the Man Cave.

On a more practical note I am working with a new HD totally waterproof HD camcorder with 12 Mpixel that would be perfect for any FE.....at MUCH less cost that the present GoPro HD unit. Production is underway and we are testing the samples. Tomorrow we attempt to integrate a GPS unit and then an ultra-miniature WiFi module so that the onboard image/video from a FE.....and other military type vehicles....could be picked by Iphone, Ipad etc. It will be a bit bigger than your thumb at this point.

I think HK is "dumping" with subsidies. Curious to know more of what you have learned.

"Dumping", or selling at or below cost to increase customer base/market share is not uncommon with offshore companies competing with US products. In the early 1980's, Honda brought in several large cruiser/touring motorcycles to compete with Harley Davidson's Big Twins. They [Honda] were price-dumped to drastically undercut Harley's pricing. Then/President Ronald Reagan imposed an import tariff to protect American production/marketing interests. Harley Davidson, as legend has it, responded with the "Fat Boy" motorcycle, a stripped down Big Twin ( with a hidden message ?) priced to compete with the Honda bikes. The Fat Boy was painted silver, had seven gold stripes strategically placed around the mechanicals, and silver solid disc wheels. In a completely unrelated coincidence , the United States , on August 6 , and August 9, 1945, gave Japan two "presents"; one was named Fat Man, and one was named Little Boy , had seven gold stripes, and was delivered by a silver vehicle with silver, solid-disc wheels. Weird coincidence, Huh !
