OOOOOooooooooh......saltwater........ not friendly to RC boats. You need to flush it after every time out...........and well. The saltwater will want to hang around in the cooling jacket gasket areas too........... you may want to pull them off completely after a run.
-
Yes! The cowlings fit much better now. And because these water jackets cover almost the entire motor can I will assume no air cooling is needed. So I am going to seal up those vents on the cowling to prevent water from getting in. That should keep the water out, I don't want to damage those nice motors, especially since I will be running this boat in salt water 99% of the time.
Need to rig a flushing system so the salt doesn't eat away at those pretty purple motos under the cooling jacket.

Yep.............you have 7mm more room at the top now.............you wont have to crunch your stiff motor wires down under the cowl. Outta be nice.Originally posted by ScarabChris View PostI got all my stuff to upgrade to brushless today. I just got started changing everything over. The Feigao 540S is a perfect fit on the EP1s even with the water jacket. Infact its a better fit than the stock 550s.Last edited by Make-a-Wake; 11-02-2010, 09:42 PM.

Hey Brian, sorry buddy you are correct on all counts. No snow shovel, Scarab docked out back and a quick ride out to open water.
The downside....I am embarrassed to say how much my house insurance is. How does $5500.00 a year for a 1500 square foot house sound? It gets worse, how about another $5000.00 a year for property tax. Yeah ouch! The time I spend on the real Scarab keeps me sane.
Brian, please look at my other thread here and give me your ideas. I'm chomping at the bit now. I am building some EP1 lower units that will have the gears in an oil bath. http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=19114

Nice video. By the way, I hate youOriginally posted by ScarabChris View PostNew video.
Sorry this one sucks too. I was shooting and driving at the same time. Most of the video is just a nice view of the canal behind my house.

I have always wanted a Scarab since College. would love to live by the water, I do not like snow. you have a scarab, live on a beautiful looking canal and you probably do not have a snow shovel hanging anywhere in your garage. yep, I hate you.
Now that I am in a position that I could swing an offshore boat, i live in Indiana where they call puddles "lakes"! I don't have a place to run my 40" scarab that does it justice, let alone a real one
OK, you probably pay more in house insurance than I do. 4,300 sq ft and I pay around $1300 a year. Throw me a bone, do I win that one!!!!
Very nice place and the model is looking fantastic. That stinks that you are smoking motors that much.
Looked up ezrun hobbywing brushless 4300 and found some listings:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.41126 will give you the basics of what the motor is. You can then look elsewhere for something comparable. looks like a 36mm x 50mm inrunner. Anyidea what the rpm you are running now is?
Look on OSE here for motors. Couple at HK that are available:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7194
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=6530 its lower kv, but you need to see how fast you want to run
Keep up the good work, need to down load my eagle tree and see if my 40" scarab did any better today. Had 30-40mph winds I was fighting, so I doubt it but still had to run it.

Again, that speed was with the LiPo batteries and they keep smoking the 550 motors. I could smell the motor burning from the dock. The NiMH batteries and their extra weight and less power make the boat go much slower.
Just want a little more speed than what you see in the video without smoking a motor every other run.

Agree with Doby, your speeds are fine. I wouldn't want to go any faster - not scale like.

That last video was with the LiPo batteries and I think I smoked another motor. With the NiMH batteries its much slower. I don't want a "full race" speed but a little faster just for the "cool factor" and to not have to keep replacing junky motors.Originally posted by Doby View PostI like your vid...not sure why you would want to go faster....has a really nice scale looking speed. Faster would look out of place and a brushless motor will strip the gears even faster....been there, done that!
I am currently building up a pair of EP1 lower units for a little higher performance. The gears will be submerged in high grade marine gear oil just like the real boats. The stock EP1s just have some crappy grease that gets moved out of the way by the gears.

Found a video of another twin EP1 boat that is super fast. Can someone look at his description and tell me what motors he is running under those cowlings? I wouldn't mind seeing some speeds closer to that. Guess I'll have to go brushless.

Got the decals today, they look perfect! I put them on the boat and they couldn't look more correct. Thanks so much!Originally posted by befu View Post

Thanks Ray, can't wait to get the rest on and see how it looks.Originally posted by RayR View PostMore graphics comin at ya. Well, at least as fast as the postal service.

Yes, I was a little hesitant about using that hull for this but its all tying in perfect. Once I get the rest of the decals on I'll post some new pics. I'm doing a few other things too.Originally posted by westbeach View PostDayum, real nice lines on the Challenger hull. What a great build this has turned out to be.
Thanks so much for all the help guys. This boat is looking great, now I just need to get the speed dialed in. May have to go brushless later.
