Have you informed hyperperformance about the problems,if not i think you should, why sell a product to do the job then you have to modify it before you can use it.

Just an FYI I will be able to sell me adaptors in the next few weeks lads! After a long delay in trying to find someone to help me manufacture them for the right price!

I don't mean to barge in on this thread but I know a few were very interested, so PM me for details!

        Cheers
        Kris

No problem Kris. Thanks for the info.

Patrick, I trimmed down the original mount to the specs Hyperformance said it should be and ran onto the exact same problem as you. Too short. Like you, I was able to make it work with some tweaking of the flex coupler. I only got a chance to work with the OS flex and I wasnt too impressed with it. Square corners were rounded and the flex had a permanent bend like a wire drive. I have been out of town and ordered two flex's from Hyperformance and two from Kris. I'll let you know how they work when I pick up my mail. I hope you contacted Hyperformance. I will do so in a few days.

Think i will be ordering mine from Kris,i think that a company like Hyperformance, they should of tested these first before putting them on the market or at least do the kit with the flexi so its ready to go,if i had ordered the kit from this company i would not of been very happy if id of had these problems as the shipping time and extra money it would of cost to get it to work and to here in the uk.

Mike who recommends 3 degrees of down angle??? That is the most ridiculous amount of down angle I have ever heard. The boat, I doubt would be able to get on step. I run about zero to positive 1 degrees, with almost zero lead. The battery weight along puts such a force on the bow that I use the 1 degree positive to keep it running a little bow high, which is the way most woodstuffs like to run. The 30" hull is an odd bird tho, and I honestly do not recommend it over the 28" Woodstuff. It doesn't have the test time in that the 28" and 32" Woodstuffs have. My 28, 32 and 36" Woodstuffs all drive very very easy. Dick has to really work hard to drive his 30", and neither me, or Dick have been able to figure out a way to make it turn better. Just my opinion after tons of test time with 3 of the woodstuff hulls, and I am working on one of the Woodstuff 40" tunnel hulls right now to do an 80mph SAW run in the fall. Mike

Oh, and btw, use Kris Flynns OS adaptor, or make one like I make, get the fullers or hyperformance "k&B" coupler, and get Kris Flynn to make you the custom cables he made for me. Its an OS length cable, with OS square on the propshaft end, and K&B square on the coupler end, and they work GREAT. Mike

He designed the hull for nitro power and I doubt he has really made any mods in setup or design for FE. Plus we don't know what kind of props he is using on this setup. I agree it's alot of angle but I thought I would offer the input for a reference mark. I have a bit of angle (not sure how much) but prob 1.5 to 2 degrees in my VS-1.

Alan, I am actually part-sponsored by Mike Crawford and I hold the Q SAW IMPBA record with his 32" Woodstuff running 64.65mph. I actually did all the building on Dick Loebs 30" Woodstuff, and my 28, 32, 36, and 40" Woodstuffs. I am Mike Crawfords "answer guy" when it comes to the Woodstuff FE powered setups. The problem with the 30" tunnel is Mike C. himself did not do much testing to the 30" design even in nitro form, and it needs some work to get it to turn correctly without hooking. The reason I don't have a 30" version is the test time was just not done, and I steered clear of it, and went with the 28" for P-spec. I have run, and worked on Dick's 30" FE setup a few times, and cannot make it an easy driver. One thing we have talked about testing is a higher pitch, smaller diameter prop that doesn't lift to keep the bow up higher as the lifting props in the 45mm range push the bow down to hard. I told Chili to use the x642 he had as a starting point and see if it allows his hull to turn easier. I run lifting props on all my other Woodstuffs and they do great, just not sure why the 30" doesn't like them! Mike

Also, Chili, I do wish I had talked to you about the 28" hull before you got the 30" so I could have pushed you in that direction. I think you talked to Dick about the 30" and he swears you need a 30" hull to race these days, but I think the 28" is just plenty enough. Just a difference in opinions! Mike

Mike, Have you tried moving the stumble blocks back (rear edge around 50-55%) and dropping the prop lower?

Kris, I have not. I am about 2.5 hours away from Dick so I have not had much access to working on the boat since the SAW races. Maybe after this district race I can take it home and mess with it some more and test those ideas cause they sound like good ones! Mike

                            Mike,
next time Mike comes up to Cleveland hitch a ride with him so we can compare some notes and rub some at the pond! Bring up an 1/8th scale or 2 with ya!

We'll I'm back from vacation. Lots of good info being passed in this thread. I did recieve the replacement kit from Hyperformance and the motor mount is indeed a little too short. The flex shafts are much better quality than the OS units IMO. I did have a little problem getting the flex into the stub shaft, but all it took was flipping the flex shaft over and it went in no problem. The shafts do measure a few mm shorter than the OS unit and that is a good thing. So IMO, Hyperformance needs to raise the deck of the motor mount about 1/16" and all should be well. I'll be sending them an email. I havent recieved Kris's flex shaft yet but hopefully it will be arriving in a day or two.

Thanks for the imput Mike L. I got the 30 because it was the only FE version that Mr Crawford was bringing to the World Tunnel Champions ship and being my first tunnel build, I didnt want to do too much surgery to convert a nitro boat. As it turned out, the radio/battery box had to be ripped out anyway because it was too short. I believe Dick won the WTC with the 30" so it may need some refinement, but it aint a dog either.

FYI- Rear of the stumble blocks are at about 54%. We'll see how the 642 works out Mike. Are you going to be in Chesapeake on Friday for open water??? I ran out of time and open water will be the first time the boat gets wet. I have four other boats to worry about for the race this weekend so I just want to get some laps on her and stay out of everyone elses way in B/P-spec Tunnel. My son will also run the boat in the shootout. I'm moving him out of novice next year so this boat will be his. Maybe I'll build a 28 for myself over the winter.

Yeah, I cannot wait for this weekend! Got my Woodstuff 28 for p-spec, the Woodstuff 32 for the Open class, and just picked up a DF Cyberstorm for mono! Should be awesome! Mike

BTW, 54% seems to be the distance he uses for every hull. All 4 of mine are at 54%! Weird. Mike
