This is me, but....

For any soldering application that requires strength, I use Stay-Bright Silver solder. It's supposed to be stronger than the standard 60/40 rosin core.... I have yet to have a solder joint fail using the Stay-Bright stuff

Tony, Mike Crawford does the Woodstuff boats (262)210-9403 . He doesnt do internet or email. He's what you call "old school". LOL

Kent, I actually have a couple packages of those threaded inserts in my shop. I may give them a try after the Chesapeake race.



I got the bullets all soldered up today and did a bench test. When I installed the motor/flex coupler, I found something a little unusual, I had to slide the coupler way down the motor shaft to allow the square flex to slide up into it. It was so far down the shaft that only one of the two worm screws were holding the coupler to the motor shaft. Apparantly there was still not enough of the flex in the collet because with a no load bench test, I ended up rounding the stock flex shaft at the collet.

So I have an email in to Hyperformance to see if anyone else has had this problem or if the flex shafts they sell for the OS are the same dimensions as the stock unit. Personally, I think the motor mount is about 5mm too tall. We'll see what happens.

Just out of curiosity, why did you go with an OS unit instead of a K&B lower? Just curious, that's all...

I don't know squat about tunnels so I just went with what Dick and Mike L run in there Spec set ups. Plus Dick won the WTC with the Woodstuff and OS so I figure I couldnt go wrong. He has been great with helping me set it up.

It is a Hyperformance mount specifically for the OS lower. What you see is what I got. No modifications. They are not on his web site yet. I got a email this evening from David. There was a little miscommunication at the shop and they did in fact make it too tall. He's going to send out a replacement tomorrow.

What's all the extra plumbing on the OS lower? Looks like multiple water lines?

I'll let you know how the new unit works out when I recieve it. It may be a week and a half though. I start vacation for a week on Friday and probably wont recieve it before I leave. I am using the Hyperformance flex coupler. It was part of their electric conversion kit. Both pieces were about $41 shipped. They also make OS flex cables if you need a spare. The extra hose is just to keep dirt out of the lubrication fittings.

Ok, so I got my OS lower and Hyperperformance adapter kit today...here are a few observations:

1. The stock OS cable is longer than the Hyperperformance cable and it is also smaller in diameter. So the stock OS cable square end is too small to work with the motor shaft adapter (it spins in the adapter); you will have to use the Hyper cable.
2. But the Hyper cable is too large to fit into the stub shaft's square hole, so you will have to carefully reduce the size of one of the square ends.
3. The adapter is also a little too short (before it was too tall) as the motor shaft adapter bottoms out on the inside the OS lower before mating with the lower. You will need to do a little machining on the motor shaft adapter (or the OS lower) to get it to work without rubbing.
4. The Hyper OS cable is also too long, so you will have to trim the length a bit.

Other than that it works great!
