Um mate the 9xl will not last to long on 6s, I blew many up on 5s with 47mm props. Watch those temps and remember the magnets will start to fail over 160 deg F and the damage will accumulate quickly. The motor when the magnets let go can kill the ESC very quickly

Wow 47mm on a 9xl is way to much , 45mm carbon is the limit or use 42mm 3 blades , like i said in a few post up we used 2 feigao 9xl on 6s lipo 45mm k prop later 42/3 blades and ETTI 125amps and they where stone cold . The 6kg HPR06 reached 60mph .----------------------

When you are referring to 47mm etc, are you talking about the prop diamater or the total pitch?

Bonewar,
hopeing to test tomorrow, just need to cut the shafts down and install them, I have not fitted the cut off's topthe lipo wires as yet as I cant see a nice way to do it, but I hope to test tomorrow morning regardless.
I will try and get some pics & 1'st run speeds.
How about the M12, I like the flap idea, is it progressing?
Cheers...Fruity.

If this is any help then all is good.
I have a 9XL in my 32-36"cat Depend on where you measure from.
With a 637 on 5S it is fine, runs well and fast My GPS is blowing bubbles so no accurate speed
With a 642 the speed goes mental and it really flies but the motor temp does go up a lot. I have doing a lot more asking / reading and will lift the strut for the 642 runs if I ever decide to use that prop again.
I can imagine that a 47mm prop even a X4 would be a lot for that motor, it is bad enough on 4S and would get a lot worse on 5S and out of order on 6S. Twins will not unload them enough to be happy.
If you have to run 6S then keep the prop dia down and up the pitch for speed, be carefull with this route too.
I love rpm instead of dia but sometimes still over prop the bugger.
I type, you read, we all learn a bit.................I hope.
See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

Guys,
the thoughts on the props is definitly appreciated, I am only using carbon L&R at this stage and have the 40mm x 1.4 set on the boat for the first run, I am hesitant to switch to 45nn x 1.4, but will see how the temps go.
My fried has a set of X442 sharpened & Balanced. I may even try these before the 45's.
I have a 9XL on 6S in my supervee, and it does not like the X6 series props either, starts to heat up and pull lots of amps.
Batteries are charging now for test tomorrow.
Cheers...Tim.

You mean to move the motors forward 1", right?

My 1 suggestion would be to move your motors back behind the first step in the hull , About 1" back from where you have them now , reason being it will make it easier to change out your cable/wire drives. I've built 2 of these hulls , 1 twin , 1 single. The twin simrad cat , the motors are like yours and it is a pain in the a#$$# to change the drives out to oil them. I like what you have done with the servo mount , looks good. If you have any problems with your build shoot me a PM. BONEWAR

Guys,
first test this morning, few quick runs, only getting between 60 & 75 Kph with th e40mm carbons, tried the 45's for just over 60kph, doesn't sound like it is revving though, motors did not seem to scream though.
I have just been reading that timimg for the 9XL should be at 0 degrees, I have not changed the settings on the Turnigy 180'2, it is set at 15 degree's from factory, I will re-program and re- test. Any thoughts if this would limit the rpm?
Sailr, motors are ok in that position, I am running 6S, so the packs are quite heavy and balance it all out, otherwise my COG movement is really limited, your experience with the Seaking / Turnigy may help, Timing at 0 degree's is that correct?
My friend John was with me and got a couple of pics & vid, he will post when he get's a chance.
Also, lucky john came with me as I left all of my packs in the shed and had to use two of his.....felt like a tool, Boat & no batteries...
Cheers...Tim.

Fruity,
Here's a how to install the cut offs doc.
It's really not that hard to do.It's piece of mind with those expensive lipo's.
I use 1 on my SV27 and it work's well, I don't use them on my cats i use the esc's cut off function instead.
Props- You should see some good speed with those 40mm props, I would be very careful trying the 45mm props, couple of laps and check everything. I think you should try your friends x442's as well.
M12- I'm still waiting on the weather so that i can finish the fiberglassing. I've been busy making the new rudder setup ,carbon fiber motor mount , should have them finished buy the end of the week.
Thanks for the update mate.

Bonewar,
the cut off's I meant I should have said safety loops, to kill the lipó power when the boat is being retreived etc.
I just need to work out a neat way of putting them in. Also wanted to run prior to doing it as I am now going to shift the esc's back a little.
Can you please tell me where your cog sits, measured from the back of the sponson, not the overall hull?
Thanks....Tim.
My flex drives are easy enough to get out with the motor position, but removing the completer motor is a bit fiddly, I have a couple of modified allen keys that make it not too bad.
