Captain just ship and can't be saved?

So let me get this straight in my head. Captain Phillips gets loose, jumps in the water and there is no one there to save him or military there to take out the guys on the raft? Could this have anything to do With Hilary stating that this will crisis be solved without a loss of life? We don't want to go upsetting any Somali pirates out there. What happened to "Walk softly and carry a big stick, but know how and when to use the stick". The USA still(probably for not much longer) carries the biggest stick around, but is afraid to use it!

Why even have the military carry weapons any longer? They can't use them without the fair of getting Court Marshalled! Police are afraid to draw their weapons for fair of a law suit. This country is rolling down the hill at a rapid pace.

Instead of ranting about conspiracies and such, perhaps the scenario was thus:

The captain jumps out of the lifeboat and starts swimming towards a US Navy ship.....which is circling hundreds of yards away. The pirates realize he's gone and chase him down in their boat with rifles aimed at him, clearly intending to shoot if fired upon by the military. If you were the captain - what would you want the Navy to do? This isn't a Steven Segal movie guys....people die for real here.

I am referring to the entire event. This has been going on for years.

I'm sorry, but we are thousands of miles away, with no knowledge of the actual logistics of the situation let alone the factors involved in working a situation like this.

I have been on a boarding party using small craft, and fellows, trust me, it ain't no easy feat. I think what is total BS is second guessing these folks from behind your keyboard in the comfort of your cozy little home.

I wasn't talking about boarding the boat. That would seem close to impossible without both sides getting killed. But nothing could be done with the Captain in the water and a drifting life raft?

Apparently not. And I am not prepared to second guess them on that.

Well, finally those idiots over there figured it out:

Too bad they didn't consult the armchair experts, maybe they could have cut this short sooner.

Amazing.... It takes this to finally be able to justify a chance to shoot since the captains chance of living was lowered by 75% when a barrel is to his head.

Bill, why so judgemental? You certainly take your liberty to state your opinions as much as anyone...not that it is any more right than anyone elses... but you seem to think so. Had anyone said they should have snipers take them out you would have had some objection to that as well.

Obviously nobody can know the outcome of a situation like this. I certainly feel these pirates should have suffered for their actions... sudden death is a bit too easy but at least it is final for the bastards. They will not be boarding another ship and maybe this will slow down other thinking about doing it.

I bet I know of at least one family proud of our military and our firepower. Seems freedom and guns do mix.
