Jeff, re-read Steven's first post. I think most of his right wing oriented musings were proven wrong.

As far as carrying weapons, yes, I am very glad that the extremely well trained and well armed Navy SEALs were there with their Barrett sniper rifles (or what ever they used). Please tell me now how that relates to Joe Blow needing an AK-47 in his house.

I also have to say, despite the relatively short range (less than 100 yards, almost an insult to any sniper!!) you have to admire these guys. Three shots, on target from the deck of a rolling ship at a target on another smaller pitching vessel.

Well Steven to be perfectly accurate, it is your view and not the "truth". Just because someone thinks something does not make it "The Truth".

My brother is in Iraq. Trust me, he has no fear of using his weapon. Nor do any of his friends according to his reports.

The alleged fear of police officers is overstated. I am very close to several and none have indicated that they are afraid to use their weapon if the situation requires it. For the record my closest friend in life was a police officer for 25 years. My close friend and neighbor is a police officer. My uncle and three cousins were/are police officers in NYC. And another very close friend was a career officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (the State Police in AZ). So my opinions here are not drawn from a vacuum. BTW, two of these folks were in officer involved shootings. Both were reviewed according to department policy and shown to be justified shoots.

With regard to the pirates in this case, I think we clearly did carry a big stick and walked softly. We tried other measures but used force when it was needed and in proportion to the situation.

You sudden concern about the Somalia pirates is interesting. I recall no such concern over the last several years when they have been active and gaining boldness. But then at that time you could not use it as a basis for making negative remarks about the Secretary of State or the way the military is used.

But again, this is one issue with most on the Right. You view your position as "The Truth". Period. Sorry, but the truth is never really all that clear cut. And I still disagree with second guessing the situation as a means for attempting to support your view of the truth.

And I am not, and never will say, that you do not have the right to hold those views or to express them. But we all need to be ready and able to defend our views once we do state them.

And I just read a detailed account. There were 3 teams who took their shots from concealment on the fantail of the Bainbridge THROUGH the tiny portholes of the life capsule. They were not in what many people have in mind when they hear "lifeboat". This is an enclosed boat with very small windows. Three shots from the deck of a rolling ship through the porthole of a small craft bobbing on tow behind them. I'm impressed!!

Oh, and they got there in a night jump to the small rolling deck of a ship underway!!

Bill how would you have felt wadding in the water, after just jumping into it waiting for a rescue? As you are a gun enthusiast you know now easily this could have been a bad story. It only takes a split second to pull the trigger.

As fanatacical right-wing extremeist I am, the Bush Administration failed big-time on this one as well.

Pirates are not criminals in ther sense of "The Law"; rather they are the enemy of civilized people everywhere and need to be exterminated like the cockroaches they are. They do not need to be in front of a judge and jury.

People fight the way they know how to and Since THE UNITED STATES along with China, France, The UK and Ireland along with Russia (Keeping in mind these are 5 permanent members of the Security council, The fox guarding the chicken coop) dumps guns in those regions. They use whats easily accessible. If you knew what your Government did to you, I think you'd have a few more explicit nouns besides trash.
