Neu 2230 cooling jacket?

Can make your own like I did, but I think that's about it. Cost me about $10...Ace Hardware is where I got the stuff for it. Bring the motor with you...they had a bunch of sizes so I went with the one that slid well over the motor, but not too loose. Hopefully Steve is working on nice metal one...going to be a popular motor for the big boats that are being converted now.

Yes, I could build one.. But I just dont trust $2000+ worth of equipment on a rubber hose with band clamps... Might work fine,, but if I dont feel 110% secure while running 65mph in a heat race,, I dont even put my boat in the pond! LOL

Not trying to argue with you Rich but if nothing else this would infact work safely. The only draw back would be clearance around your motor as the no-hub band is thick. We use these every day for plumbing. I trust them inside walls in houses so I imagine under what pressure your cooling lines have this would handle. You can get them anywhere Ace, lowes, HD. If it gets you on the water at least for now its worth it. However your ponds dont freeze so time is on your side.

The water jacket is not keeping me off the water,, i just want to see the temps go down,, they are at 130-135 right now,, which is fine.. But I like things to be as cool as I can get them!

Your right on the ponds not freezing,, but its been raining for a week now!! I dont like running in the rain,, LOL

You just gave me a good idea...going to run the motor without the jacket on for 3 min or so and check temps. Then put it on for the second run (next day so motor is at room temp). I wonder how much good this homemade jacket will do. Thanks for the inspiration tx! Going to try and finish the boat up this weekend...batteries should be here early next week. Will let you guys know what I find!

not to derail this post but 10s2p is 2 packs of 5 cells in parallel????

It is four packs of 5cell packs two sets of 5S in series, then the two sets of ten cells in paralle.
I do not have that many 5 cell packs. I use 4 sets of 4S1P and two sets of 2S1P to make the packs I run in the 10S2P boats or T class boats.

I am thinking about designing a cooler that will work for the finned motors but they are gona be large.

Guys, is this picture of a 2230 motor like the ones you have? We are getting closer to making one but want to be sure it is what is needed. This is the motor we are working with.

Thanks Peter, so the old style has the wire ties and the newer ones have the fins all the way back to where the wire ties were it seems. Does that sound correct? The motor I have is dated 5/09. Thanks

Mine is same as Peters... No cooling in front.. Our motors have fan in the rear...

I am sure the diameter is the same,, what is the total length of fins on your 2230?

txboatpilot, the fins on my motor measure 3.328 long. From the looks of the photo yours and Peters is shorter, hard to tell. Can you guys do a measurement and let me know please?
Looking like two size jackets are required, old and new style.

Ok, here is a jacket for the new style motor. Flow rate and leak test are great.
Problem: Support for rear of motor. No room for strap style support at rear.
The jacket may work, not sure untill more testing is done.

Very nuce job! I have been making plates to support the rear of my motors and glassing them into the hulls,, then drill holes in each side and run a zip tie over the top to hold the rear of the motor, nice and solid...

Will this jacket clear the finned motors? If so, I would love to try one out!
