You know this stuff is truly awesome!. I mean you guys are willing to give away basically brand new stuff to kids just to make sure they can have a good time, But what about the people that don't have the forums to read? How about trying to donate stuff here in the US. I'm not saying that people across seas don't deserve nice free things to, everyone does. How about a big brother thing. We have time to sit here and read me included but take the time to help someone less fortunate, in trouble or just someone that has just had a rough life. Give them an R/c and not royal crown cola and teach them how to set it up, maintenance it, take care of it and MOSTLY have fun playing and learning. Teaching is a great thing, its even better when there are people out there like all of the people here on OSE that are not looking to beat each other on the water land or air, but teach each other our tricks and tips so we can all be equal, and i think we should do the same for those close to us in our own towns and cities. Imagine taking a child thats just been through a real tragedy like with the coastal states devastated by hurricanes or other natural disasters and having a day or a weekend dedicated to those and let them have a chance to play with setup FAST ELECTRIC toys. I just think it would be nice to host or be apart of something dedicated to those who have never heard of what we do or just curious to learn and possibly get into our sport! Also i think If we could setup on a lake for a weekend and raffle off a few of our used boats or things that we have laying around to kids and only to the kids. Giving them and there parents a chance to try something new in life. You never know you might change that families life forever and make a bunch of new friends!
Thanks for reading my short book! I just wanted to throw in an idea or 2 and let you guys know that what you do is awesome and you deserve a million more thanks for what your doing!
I believe it's my god-given right, To destroy everything in my sight. Cause it never gets dull, it never gets old. The only thing it gets is more bold. Drinkin', fightin', going to the game. In our world it's a way to stay sane. If you're asking me. To have it my way, I'd say that's One fine day. ---- The Offspring

If you get this thing started, I'll be right there to help you.

The only problem I see is that this hobby is not cheap!!! I've been out of work for nearly 2 years (Nov. '08) and have not had a chance to play much this summer. Because I'm still a novice in this hobby I wreck/burn up a lot of parts. These new "kids" will probably do the same. The idea of getting someone started with a small boat has the advantage of the cheaper learning curve.

I'm right behind you Wrkn, let me know what help you need.

JMSCARD, you rock, another great idea brought by the members of the O.S.E. Forum!!!
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

This IS what I am trying to do locally. Last year, we built 1/10 crackerboxes in cubscouts. Vacuum formed hull, glass reinforcement, solid drive, brushless mystery outrunner and esc, lipo's, basic charger, 2ch AM radios... All for about $90 running. Good starting point. We even resin cast our own kick up rudders!

Now a group of us are building solar boats. Power comes from four 6v-100ma cells and a maxon motor pushing a plastic prop. Build away and race them. No controls or anything, just fun. Next we will try some climbing vehicles or racing solar cars. Might end up adding a radio for 1 channel control to steer. Power the radio, but motor only from solar.

Lots of things like this can change how people grow up. My goal is to have at least a small effect on someone's life and hopefull start something that will have big returns.

I should start a build on the solar boats. One of my sons ended up building a solar powered submarine! Not enough flotation! At least he learned thisin the bathtub.

First all the addicts on here! You guys have been doing this for years racing them building them creating new and better more improved ideas for anything they make! Id like to start with you, you know the places where people play and race through the seasons and year around in some places. You guys would be good candidates for this. Have your children advertise at school or at your local library's. More chances of getting the word out in those places. Set up a few weekends a year nothing outrageous until word spreads. Dedicate a thread to donations. Only posts are donation related. The only money discussed is bare minimum shipping prices on certain things due to size or weight. IMO. Then whoever decides to host the first event or whoever volunteers first. Take and send the donated products to the host and the day of the event have a raffle just hand out tickets to kids and young adults. No need for them to pay, OR have a donation jar setup make a donation enter into the raffle. The end of every day give away a few prizes. Nothing to expensive mainly ABS hulls and brushed motors some good brush less stuff small amounts of power nothing to crazy. Unless willing to donate nice big stuff. I say we get it started first and see how it turns out. Like i said, do it maybe 3 or 4 times a year so we can have time and spare money and parts to donate that way the hosts don't have to worry about a selection or not having anything to give away. Plus it gives ample time to ship things and clean assemble and test. I'm new to this myself so i am not a good candidate to host anything, theres still to much i have not learned and experimented with to be comfortable. On the other hand tho i am willing to donate some of the parts and hulls that might be slightly damaged or just not in use any more motors that have just been retired escs that just sit around radios anything that we don't use any more. Id like to see this take off. So how about it? Who wants to try to arrange an event and try to setup a weekend for kids and young adults? Ill donate what i can to help make it possible and i hope and know a few others here on O.S.E will be willing to do the same. Keep up all the good work fellas. I hope we can arrange something and make it great!

We need a new sticky thread dedicated to this someone talk to steve and see if he can help us out for the kids

Fantastic ideas you are wiring here!
I remember when my father took me the first time to the local club. I was 7, the bug bit me then and I haven't been cured ever since :) I scratch built my first (non RC) boat then. After 23 years I still have it, and I'm proud of it, it came out very nice, with the help of the adults of course. :)
Modeling (and people who helped me then) has changed my life in a positive way for sure. I acquired skills no one else in my class nor my friends had. We RC people, scratch builders are a "special" species of animals but you probably know that. LOL
I too wish and hope to be be in a position in the future, to be able to donate as well, but for now I can't. Me and a couple of other guys are working to save our club from the worst. Save it for future generations to come. We're educating kids through seminars and in the workshop as well. Every year when the school year starts we advertise in the local elementary schools, plus we recently had a public boat show and lot's o kids are coming. This is the reason I wanted the radios offered here. To help kids into the hobby, kids who can't afford, who's parents can't afford this expensive hobby.
Thank you all for the good ideas!
            Norbert
