Just for anyone who may read this. Lipo Power received a BRAND NEW 1521 motor straight from OSE at a cost of 245.00 new and shortly after getting only a few minutes of runtime it went up in smoke. I find this completely unacceptable. With all the less expensive options out there NUE will be losing business if this trend is ever continued. I realize mistakes can happen but now there is a high end boater out of commission for at least a few weeks. Pretty sad in my opinion. ALSO if any moderator reads this I am no longer receiving my emails for PM's and thread replies. If you can fix or help fix please advise. Thanks and to Lipo Power I feel for ya buddy. I can't say as though I feel bad on my end as this was a new motor but it does SUCK. If any help is needed from me please let me know.
It's hard to place blame when setup info isn't known. Will it not be warrantied?
Easy now. His setup was described to me in his PM. I have run these motors well above his setup for seasons and no problems all around. No, I was not there watching however when buying a motor of this caliber people likely know pretty much where they are at. I am not trying to start a fight I just want the word to get out and I may voice my opinion strongly sometimes but again, in my opinion it should not have happened, and couldnt have happened to a nicer guy. I wish him luck and I am sure Neu will gladly help and I know it does not happen often but as I have purchased many of these motors I am seeing a trend of having to send them right back to Neu before even wiring them for various reasons.
It sounds to me like someone used too long of screws when mounting the motor. Motors just don't go up for no reason. Its also possible the wires got nicked at the factory but I doubt it because these motors are ran up and tested before being sent out. Anyways I'm sure Neu will fix it for free unless the wires are pinched were the screws enter. Then your looking at 50% off for a new one. Try getting that service with any other motor company.
Hi
Thanks for your feedback.
May I ask what screws are you referring to?
Motor is mounted with wrap around style mount straight to the railings.
No screws are going in at all.
See picture.
I suspect there was something wrong with wiring inside the motor from factory plus the shaft had a little in and out play and I think for this motor that is a little weird.
My last motor had no play on bearings at all... That could create vibration and who knows what was going on inside of it at RPM....
Maybe they are testing them at NEU but do they put every motor under load like we do? Do not know.

Well then I guess its not your mounting screws that did it. Did anybody else run the motor before you did? If not then you have nothing to worry about and should get your motor fixed for free.
I was going to post the same thing as Mark F, but that has been answered....
Lipo Power, is it possible that the straps are deforming the motor casing causing the rotor to make contact with the windings, just throwing some thing out for a suggestion.
