FS: 1/10 cracker boxes - need input

OK, I have received several postings and PM's about people interested in the crackerboxes that I made for the cubscouts. Well, we made our four and have not run them together yet due to summer, vacations and such, but they do run well.

    Build thread is here:

    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=12753

I form the hull from .060 HIPS, the deck and hatch from .040 HIPS. I am not an expert vacuum former by a long shot and there are flaws on the hull. In some of the photos, you can see the "ripple" in the plastic on the sides and transom near the bottom. The inside is smooth, but this little ripple does appear. On ours, we did not worry about them. They can be sanded out before painting though. Also, on some of the decks you can see where a small crack from the plug showed in the plastic. Not all of the hulls, but some of them. Again, it could be sanded out.

The back half of the hull is roughed up on the inside with sand paper for future reinforcement. Both halves are trimmed up and glued together. the 5.7 oz kevlar/carbon reinforcement is then epoxied into the hull. After that a 1/8" plywood transom is also epoxied into the hull with microballoons. makes a thicker paste to fill voids behind the transom plywood - very strong. the front of the hull is filled with two part foam, 2 lbs per cubic foot density. some of them have another piece of HIPS on the foam just to dress them up, some don't. Final weight on these without hatch is 13.1 to 14.1 oz

The hatch is vacuum formed, but it has a web between the drives head. (The following still needs to be done, I have done this on our hulls. First the inside of the helmets are roughed up and epoxied were the web is. Then the web can be cut out and sanded down. You can see it, but it looks pretty good.)

Vac-u-boat makes a really nice kit and offers all kind of parts to finish the boat. The basic kit of just the formed plastic pieces that you then need to trim and glue together is $58 shipped. Thier plastic work is probably much better than mine, I do not do this professionally.

    Pricing:
Hull as shown, joined, kevlar/carbon fabric, plywood transom, foamed bow and hatch cover: $65 +,shipping.
I could also do just the three pieces vacuum formed, ready to be trimmed and joined. No work done other than forming for $25 + shipping

    Feedback request:
Below are some photos and I will be posting more information on the hardware that I made for these boats. I am looking for what people think these may be worth as described above, hull and hatch only ready for you to install hardware in. Is $65 + shipping out of line? would you expect more or less? Please give me some feedback please, I can take it

    2nd post hardware package

This is the hardware for how it is shown in the below photos. I know races are with Roar motors, but I am done with brushed motors when you can buy a mystery 30 amp ESC and 1700kv outrunner for $20 delivered that will not need brushes changed.

I have some of the skegs and bent aluminum motor mounts and trim tabs available, let me know if interested and we will see if we can come up with a price.

I will be detailing the drivetrain construction more in the build thread.

The driveshaft can also be provided. 1/8" steel, drilled .093 for a flex cable to take place of u-joint and the end is threaded 5-40 for a standard nut and drivedog.

The rudder is my design and cast from urethane resin, kick up works nicely. these can be provided as raw castings ready for some sanding and drilling, or as finished ready to install. Haven't come up with prices yet, but I would think it would be fairly cheap, no idea if anyone is even interested. Would be a great club boat all setup the same.

There are several people on here that have requested information on these. Instead of sending out a bunch of PM's, I am just posting that I would like to give these few people the first right of refusal. They asked months ago to be notified if I was selling any, so wanted to put this up front on the thread so people do not think I am pulling anything fishy.

      Thank you for understanding.

Yes, $65 for the finished hull and hatch cover as shown, no hardware.

Vacu one is all the plastic pieces you need ready to be trimmed out and assembled.

I updated my first post to clarify that some.

              bare plastic

i am going to form some more parts today, so if anyone wants the three bare plastic pieces, (hull, deck, hatch) PM me, $25 plus shipping which seems to be averaging $6 to $9.

I never did a plastic stiffener for this as I reinforce with composites. Stronger that way, but maybe someone wants that option.

Still looking for feedback. How is the price for what you get?

                Bump

Bump back up, no feedback on price? Thought you guys would have had more to say.

Just got the hatch covers for these done and stored them up on the shop rafters. Maybe we can get a local group building these to run in a local pond - would be fun and get people building stuff!

The mystery outrunner really does well in these and at $20 for esc and motor del, that is a deal. Throw in batteries at about $10 each and your set. Good use for all those old AM pistol grip radios.

Hey Brian, shoot me a price on one of these hulls assembled with no foam up front, no plywood transom. Plus the skeg, trim tabs and a motor mount less the drilled holes on the motor mount......

OK, so basically the same thing, but do not fill it with foam or glue in the plywood. Two of the simple things to do, but add in the aluminum pieces.

$55 ? What do you think, let me know please.

Add a couple of strakes and you'd have an excellent jet sprint boat hull. What are the dimensions?

19.9" long, 7.25" wide, 2.5" deep in the middle. Buy one, I will include some strakes made from bondo in an aluminum mold.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you Brian. I just bought a micro hydro hull, so I will have to wait.

Nice option! You should like that one much more. The crackers are neat but they are more of a novelty and unless you have other ones to run against, it would not be my first choice.

I would still like to get one at a later date. It would only be a fun floater for the Ole Lady to dink around with while i'm at play with my boats...
