I run them on 6s,, I guess you could run 7-8s for saw type runs.. I have always had great luck with the HV-180 and this motor combo on 6s...
Well 6s on this motor with the 180hv will allow you to turn a larger prop correct? I know Raydee ran 6s on a 1527 -1500 with an x445, and his PT45 ran mid 60's easy.
Im looking to run 8s correctly...no SAW run's....
This motor should work with 8s and smaller x442 440 ya think?...
Actually just to clearify I ran a X447 (modified) and ran about 63mph in oval trim with low heat on everything. Lately I have been running a X448 prop (modified) at about 64mph and a X450 prop (modified) at about 66mph but I cut my run times down when I ran the X450 prop to a little over 1 min. The temps were all in the 120* range so I could probably sqeeze some more run time out of it if I really wanted. The X448 prop seems to be the best solution for me so far. There is a distinct sound difference from the X447 to the X448, the motor really seems to like the larger diameter props and it even has a higher pitch sound to it when I prop up. I am betting you will be able and may need to run a pretty large prop with the 1Y to see the same speeds but I never tried one to know for sure. I think I can def run in the 70's but I need to mod my Hydro to handle the speed. Right now at 60mph and over I am getting some nasty sponson dancing so I have to let off the throttle some to calm it down. I talked to a SAW racer that ran the same hull as mine and he gave me some tips to get the boat more stable at higher speeds. In all reality the X447 at 62-63 mph and longer run times is great for me but just like most others we all want to go faster
I know Rich runs the 1Y in his Sport 40 Whiplash but if its anything like my Whiplash 20 its hard to get that hull to flip unless you turn left. I ran a 1515 1Y in mine with 4s1p using a modded X445 prop and it was incredibly fast and stable. The guys at the pond were guessing it was real close to as fast as my Sport 40 hydro.

With the 1527/1Y you can prop up to the x455 range and get same speed as before.. Heat and runtime are about the same once you hit mid 60's... But some hulls like a larger dia. prop and handle much better when setup that way.. That was the reason for trying a couple of these 1Y's... I am keeping the other I have used,, this was a "extra/backup" motor for the races last weekend...
I am still "up in the air" about which runs better,, high rpm with small prop or lower rpm with bigger prop?? Both produce great speed with the right prop,, guess it just comes down to hull type and personal preference..
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!

So that being said, Lets say this, Im interested in a Hydro hull that Chris at F/D has, its a 37.4" 1/10 scale twin wing hydro, Call it alittle crazy but I wouldn't stick with 5s on a boat like this, I want a fast freakin Insane 6s Huge MAH max ripping the corners Hydro that has so much extra power its Ideal to let off 140ft before creeping a turn.haha I guess thats different from a Race guy wanting a really stable mid 60mph hydro keeping planted in every turn wide open, I guess thats just me tho, I like having way to much extra throttle.
So pretty much a nice 6s setup with a prop like an x450 with this motor here should see good 70's setup correctly. More SAW than anything. I don't like alot of heat here either.

Iv talked to Chris a few time this week on a good setup, as you are very right about the huge prop size on the 1y. The cool thing is, I can always swap back and fourth on 6-8s with this motor and still play around with a wide range of prop setups.
I just don't wanna run this motor on 8s and have alot of heat issues.
Any Idea what size prop would get me in the 70's with 8s without any heat problems, keep in mind I don't want the ESC temps to pass 147 degrees.

I would start with 45-47mm prop on 8s and yes,, I would run a HV-240 for sure...
