Not relevant to boating but worth a few words. I know the hornet species aren't the same but if the sucker has a stinger and wings, please take extreme caution. A little over ten years ago my oldest brother (at that time he was 37)was on his front end loader getting ready to push over a dead tree stump that a hurricane damaged years earlier. He proceeded to push and rock the dead stump when he said the sky literally turned solid black.......my brother described them as "syringes with wings that never stopped!!! " He mentioned that they were larger than any "normal" hornet or wasp. He was forced to leave the tractor, not to mention still running and in gear. He ran almost a half mile back to his house when he collapsed from being stung over 600 times from GROUND HORNETS!!! If anyone has ever experienced even a couple stings you l know what I'm talking about. A ground hornet at it's peak can grow just over 3" long and are known to be the most aggressive flying insect. They repetedly sting the victim while being chased down to any nearby retreat. When we got him to the ER he was no 0longer breathing and he was in full cardiac arrest. He struggled to regain stability for over a week. The doctors said he would have been better off being bitten by few rattlesnakes along with some black widow's !!!! The venom of those animals combined would not have done near the damage to his body (respiratory, circulatory, skeletal, muscular, along with the CNS) The doctors notified the Louisiana State University School of Agriculture. All experts mentioned (after he recovered of course) that the massive amount of venom that was injected into his body in such a short amount of time that if he was in any way shape or form weak, ill, or in any way unhealthy before the attack that he undoubtedly would have failed to come back to us..." best way for me to type what could have happened as I still get choked up thinking about everythingOriginally posted by ron1950 View Postnice job on the hives...just saw on the news that some 81 yr old woman somwhere around tampa area that was stung 1000 times by yellowjackets and is in rough shap in hospital ....
I know all creatures were put here on this wonderful earth for a special divine purpose along with the reasoning of all things happen for a reason... Believe me I am NOT about to even ask or question why.... I'm just thankful that he is still here with me today. I like to tell him that it was a strange and disturbed way to bring our family closer.
My apologies for such a long post but I feel like I needed to share my story/experience when I read the above post. Too many people unknowingly fall victim to these EXTREMELY venomous and aggressive species of hornet, not to mention there are people that don't even know that they exist. I have done lots of detailed research on the behavior pattern, aggression, habitat preferences and food sources. They will not discriminate on what or who they attack. They WILL chase you for as long as you are able to run without protective shelter. I just want to share a little of my knowledge with others that need to be aware. Do a google search and see what they look like and become aware of what they like for a hive/home structure. It can be as simple as something that looks like a little hole in some dirt that is actually a complex underground system, to a portion of your home that they just decide to take as their own. Again I am glad to have my BIG brother around and I pray no one has to suffer in the same manner as he did. Like I mentioned this incident happened over ten years ago and he still suffers because some of the damage to his body was irreversable. The venom along with the painful symptoms will never be completely gone. If I have touched merely one person out there I feel like I have done some good on his behalf. Please don't take this message the wrong way, as it was done to inform and not to scare or intimidate anyone so I apologise if I have. Please arm yourself with knowledge rather than fear of the unknown........

Got a question about the nats. Since it's IMPBA sanctioned, will a NAMBA membership suffice or would we have to join the other organization as well.?

You're more impatient than I am.Originally posted by RCKong View PostThe 14th is next weekend... are we going to run at Akerman ?
I want to...
who's gonna show up ?
I was thinking the same thing but was gonna hold off til Wed or so before saying anything. (Now gives the people like me with CRS more time to forget)
Count me in unless we're having the same kind of winds that are going on this weekend. (or other bad weather like heavy rain)
It took me 3 evenings but have the recovery boat battery charged back up from that pack a lunch cruise I went on at our last outing.
