Already done it Dr Wayne. I've used external power supply for receiver (LiFe 1100mAh 2s) before I burnt my Leopard 4065 1800kv motor... As for the soldered area (bottom cap bank area), I plan to spray coat it with Plasticote by CRC. Is it enough?

Platicote is good gear.

Are these anygood or should I just use rubycon ? http://www.amazon.com/1000uF-Aluminu...F9XWWNPQCSDGE5 I see some variances in the sizes, like this one is 13x25mm I seen some 13x23.5mm etc does that make much of a difference ? Link to a better source or product would be appreciated... need to build a cap bank for my draghydro thats going to be running 8-12S depending on final motor selection...tks DJTunnels-PS295. Hi.
that brand-name is not known to me ... however
2 comments
1) they seem good for 8→10S .. but 50V is a tad risky for 12S (50V) ..operating caps at their upper limit will reduce usable lifespan by stressing them .
Locate 63V caps for the additional 'headroom'.
2) although can size increases, the supporting/conducting legs on 470uf and 1000uf remains the same.. 2x470 will always outperform 1x1000 in our high frequency high energy circuits.
Looking with interest at your drag hydro.. my own has gearbox drag woes at 25k+

Thank you, so I will go with 63v 470uf. Room is not an issue in either of the builds I'm doing. Drag Hydro and Fantasm, I'm doing twins in the Fan Neu 1515 2200kv 6S and probably a Neu 1527 in the Drag Hydro. For the DH I will do a 8 x 2 para series capbank thats inline on power leads. Since I am doing a seperate lipo for each esc in my Fan would a 4x2 para series using these same caps be sufficient ? I plan on using T-180 v3's or SF 220+....
Wayne, I am sorry to hear about the probs with that V-Drive I was looking at it myself, tks for the headsup on that one brother... DJTunnels-PS295. Cats-H&M M1 Supercat Daytona rivercat. Hi.
For the 6S Fan .. 35V470uf would be a better choice for caps.. yes 4x2 is goodo.
1527 single drag hydro ..
D winds are great for high end rpm but are amp hogs at low.. a Y wind has a better torque relationship low/high rpm..
I had far better success with a pair of Y winds in the 40" hydro than when I tried D of ~same Kv.. far better launch with Y, and yet same top end.
just an observation for you to note...
re 8x2 .. that's what I traditionally dedicate to a pair 240+A esc .. big round ones live in that capbank
You must use a resistor ( 100 Ohm 5W) to soft charge the capbank on initial connect. else the connect zap WILL melt/damage plugs.

The gearbox is avail for sale if you like ?. great with rpm <25K :grin:Wayne Schutte PhdCSE BaSE BaEE. Australian, & damn proud of it

Thank you, yes I will do a antispark and loop on the DH. Noted, was thinking about doin a twin in the DH too...I do appreciate you but :) no tks on the gearbox ... if I do a single in the DH running 8-12S what kind of cap configuration should I do, maybe a 6x2 using 63v 470uf ?...so many options, this is going to be a short winter with all the builds Ive got to get done...I never thought of sharing the capbank, so you use one power source shared across 2 esc's...I had thought about doing that in my twin and was advised not too, always did that for my hot ducted fan jet setups...to me it would be more balanced... Hiya
if the DragH is just for launch and 100% .. then slow, turn and return ...... the 8x2 will do you proud..
if it's a Drag looking Hydro for oval.. 6x2 is better.
Fanty
2 'isolated' 6S power setups with esc per side..
Vs
Ive always been a supporter of the setup as detailed below..
if one motor free spins a little, it's current draw lowers, allowing the opposite to draw more.. this surprised several here the loaded motor instantly has a higher voltage and power available ..
Both packs are drained equally.. the traditionally inside hotter pack is now erased from the equation.. both feed same to cap bank.

Both will be "SAW" setups so go fast 100% ......I do prefer your way of powering twins..appreciate the easy to follow diagram too.Tunnels-PS295. Cats-H&M M1 Supercat Daytona rivercat.
