Looking for mod ideas for MG 29

Well Justin, I gues 10 miles won't be so bad. I used to be an avid road cyclist and didn't mind riding 100 miles or more in a few hoers. If I can devise a trailor for a bike it should only take me 30 minutes or so to get to the lake in North Carolina. I still should be able to find a way and hopefully I'll be able to find a mini van in my price range quickly.

As to the reinforcing of the boat to be able to handle the power of the new motor I know I can use the stock tupperware sub hatch and cull by simply making the mounting holes on the motor mount longer as to be able to move the motor back. I know I'll also have to shorten the prop shaft some. I know some have used this method and it allows just enough room to make everything fit. I don't know how good of a job I can do with the fiberglass so before we move I might have to use the help of a friend who has some resin and fiberglass. I've never worked with fiberglass so I'm a little nervous attempting it on my own. I guess being it's on the inside it doesn't have to look great though.

As to the gps I might look on craigslist like you but for now I think I need to hold back just a little. I think you know what I mean.

Sorry I havn't submitted much in the way of vids. or pics. but I hope to when I can find the time. I'd like to see your other boat projects. Please let me know what you're working on without giving away any secrets if you plan on racing them.

Thanks Justin for telling me how to show my photo on all my posts. Little did I know a photo was called an avatar. Computers are not my friend. I would rather be outdoors and I guess I just don't have the patients to learn computers. The only reason I come to this site is I love rc boats and having dialog with other rc boat addicts like myself.

Btw I don't race my boats. I just have fun with them. Mostly by myself as i don't have any local people that run. I get lots of spectators that love watching but so far none that want to buy one.

So far my boat projects are just the proboat geico, a 32" twin rivercat that I'm building from a bare hull, a carbon fiber twin I'm gathering stuff for a winter build, and a sailboat I've been working on the past few days. Also little changes to the rescue rigs I've made.

I'm prob going to be selling a few things to buy another sailboat in the near future. I'm liking that pretty well so I'd like a little bigger boat.

Btw your cameras mounted on kite ideas sound cool. I used to be big into ham radio and owned a repeater system. I also helped local clubs with getting old cell tower feedlines for their antennas. So I've been up on some broadcast towers putting stuff up and the view from 600ft is really cool. I always liked to look around over the horizon and take in the view.
I've even made mounts to put cameras on my helicopters. Those were fun but sometimes had a slight vibration to them.

While I'm thinking about it, where abouts in Tennessee are you? We are moving to Lenoir, NC which isn't very far from Tennessee so there may be a chance of us getting together some time.

As to your interest in sail boats I bought my dad a Sanibel for Christmas a few years ago and he may also like to hook up with you someday and sail together. He unlike me has no interest in speed boats. I wouldn't mind sail boating but don't know if I have the time to learn how to sail. I had the same problem with helis. I have a nice six channel 450 heli that was more than a handful for me both in repairs as well as learning to fly the thing. I have had a few offers for it but no one has gone as far as to put out their money yet. I think part of my problem I understood there would be plenty of repairs so I ended up getting 2 of the same heli. in order to be able to pirate parts off one for the other as needed. Each time I pirated a part of the other I would re-order that part as to always be ready. Long story short I now have a $500 heli. with a $150 radio system, 7 or 8 lipo. packs lots of unused spare blades some carbon some fg. all adding up to about $2,500-$3,000. Some parts I have several of like main shafts... The only thing I never got around to replacing is the gyro as that was when I gave up on the hobby for me. I do have a few short videos shot from my heli. but they mostly ended up with crashes. One guy offered me $650 for everything minus the radio as he already had a radio system mut like an idiot I lost contact with him.

For now my only project it my MG-29 which brings up a question. I was thinking about ordering a 40mm. motor mount that has the support at both ends of the motor and just adding the back section to add support to the rear for the 82mm. motor going in. That should solve the lateral torque issue as well as the problem caused by rough water causing the boat to bounce and pulling the screws out of the mount as it is now. What say you? I can get the motor mount from HK. for under $7 and mount it to a flat section of aluminum and simply superglue that to the hull. I did find some superglue that will bond to both smooth and porous surfaces. It's more like a gel. I mounted my 180 amp speed control into my Surge Crusher onto a bracket that I then superglued to it's hull and it held so well that in a flip the glued on bracket held to the hull but the hull around it cracked. Keep in mind this is only to spread the torque over a much larger surface.

Get a Castle 2650, a few props smaller than 40mm, and run 5S-6S, 2p and at least 40C with a reliable high amperage rated ESC. Finding the correct timing will be key. I did 58 mph on 4S, 2P and a Prather 215 and that motor. Just make sure to set your batteries forward of the 9" CG or it will flip backwards past 1/2 throttle.
