Out of luck so far :S

    Hey all,

My name is Kaan from Turkey and VERY BRAND NU on RC boats. I've been into modeling for over 20 years and RCs (but only cars) for over 5 years. Somehow found myself paying for a BJ26BL. Whatever, I bought it, I loved it and on the very first run (on a huge dam river) flipped it over and the wind took my BJ away from me

I proved to be but got lucked out since a friend of mine that had a BJ was very sorry for me and in case his BJ was a shelf queen so he gave his gig over to me.

Reading the forum (btw you guys are the only professional forum about BJ's IMHO) over and over for nights decided which mods to go for and started working on the new boat:

    - new cat rudder (from ebay and an exact copy of the one sold from OSE),
    - new prop (same as above),
    - 2 5.8A 20-30C 2S Lipos (hobbycity),
    - CG mods was all done and ordered.

I'm actually receiving the rudder, prop and the Lipos tomorrow.

Today the watchmen on the dam called me over and told me they found my boat Luck or not I drove there and got it from the guys. Totally dipped in muddy waters for over a week, I showered it with WD40 all over but didn't have a chance to test since my Lipos in it were already dead.

So just wanted to share the tragi-comic story.

    Some questions:

    - are the CG mods enough for better handling (except the fact that I should learn driving a boat is different from driving an offroad monster)?
    - do I need a longer flex shaft to install this rudder?
    - what else would you think is a must mod?

    Best,
    Kaan

First mount your strut and rudder setup and eye ball it you should see right away if you need a longer flex shaft, you probably do.
Follow the thread fixing bj handling problems that thread should answer any if not most of your questions.
    5.8A lipos? don't you mean 7.4 v lipos 2sx2= 14.8 volts.
Welcome to the world of fast electric and to the black jack forum.
    LOL g-unit.

      Hi Kaan
its great to have you aboard, now that you have two blackjack's you can use one to retrieve the other one, and stay away from that dam!. I too know nothing about rc boats, so I wont be offering you any advice, other than keep reading the posts on here! I have learned so much by reading all these for the past couple of months.

        5.8A = 5800 mah 2S lipos. So YES 14.8 Volts and 5800 mah.

Everything arrived today, so probably will see how they all fit in

yeah really the fun started :) this is very much a wedding list man. you think you've got it all till after your honeymoon you start looking for the waste basket and realize that the towels are not big enough hahhahha

              to start:
              - the batteries arrived first. I soldiered my deans and set them up to full charge.
              - they don't fit :S so I need to come up with some kind of ? piece of ply wood between the batteries and the hull bottom. there's a slight gap about 6-7 mms I need to fill. damn lipos are a bit thicker than I thought ( I remember whispering myself: I hope they fit, these 5.8Ah's are bit wider than I think!!!)
              - I assembled the rudder, now it's time to take out the old one and put the new one on, same goes for the prop. and you know what? I got everything but not the connection between the servo and the new rudder as it is supposed to be a little longer than the stock. no idea what to do NOW but will have some after I'm done (probably 2 hrs from now as I need to put my son to bed :) it's 10:45 PM here)
              - let's see what'll hop in next, but I'll post some pix of the hull (I keep on writing body and then deleting it, replacing wit hull. old habit from rc cars haha) as I did some IMHO good sticker job on it?

              I'll keep you guys posted.

QQ the fins? what do YOU do with them: remove, keep, angle, shorten? this is one topic I get a bit confused reading through the threads...

first I shortened and angled them, boat ran good but I did not try wot in the turns as I don't have a recovery system in place yet and I'm a bit leary about swiming for it since they pulled a 10 foot gator out a few weeks ago.
but on the rebuild I'm eather going w/o or in the hull turn fins I'm not sure yet,one step at a time, I'll probably going to not install the fins but cut the hull and just tape over the slots in the hull bottom and see how it runs with out the fins first.
you can do the same, take the fins off and tape over the holes, if you don't like it reinstall the fins.

ok now... VEEERY confused here, I might have messed it up a bit. so everyone please comment???

first things first, here comes the pix of the hull. sorry for the nite shots.

now when it comes to where I think I messed it up:
                  - the screws of the old rudder gave me hell! I had to cut their heads of to remove them. the new rudder is now on (partly as I only screwed in top 2 holes, the rest has to be worked on [tomorrow]),
                  - I had to cut off the flex shaft as it was LONG!!! and I lost two strings from on top of it tell me I didn't do too bad (well tell me anyhow I already have a spare shaft and stuffing tube on the way),
                  - the propeller is supposed to be like 1-2 mm bigger than stock right? now at this stage everybody yells RIGHT (otherwise I'm in deep )

so here's the picture after the installation of almost all except for the servo arm. let me know what you think:

Looks good to me, can we get some shots of the transom, rear view and we can tell more.
but what I can see it looks ok.
put a 1/8 inch space between the prop dog and the strut.

I already have a spacer for the area: might add some tubing to prevent water entering the stuffing box. pix will follow tomorrow. you releaved me :) thanks

A spacer ? or do you mean a thrust washer and bearing, I put that on mine but removed it for no special reason just kept a gap there. also used heat shrink around the stuffing tube and strut. keeps water fron coming up the flex shaft.

ok, I read it SPACER :) now I read it more carefully, will remove the spacer and the heat shrink is a good idea and easy to roll on, thx.

what about the other questions I had? flex shaft, strings, prop size :s

Most of us it seems like running a x642 prop from octura. I also have a x645 and a x640,
haven't tryed the smaller or larger one yet but the x642 runs great. what do you mean strings,
did you brake some strands on your shaft, not sure what you mean.
but hey I got to go now just getting off work, my computer a home does;ent work so well so I'll hear from you in tha am when i'm back at work.
                              later
