    Having Brain Fart On Lipos....

New to using Lipos and wondering, for the life of me i cant remember the best setup power wise for the stock BJ ESC and motor. i can run up to a 3s right? IDK im confused about the whole parallel or being in series thing. two 3s parallel is just a strong 11.1v, and two 3s in series is 22.2v right? IM FREAKEN LOST! HELP!!

In our world it's a way to stay sane. If you're asking me. To have it my way, I'd say that's One fine day. ---- The Offspring

Right parallel = longer run times, series more power.
note! be carefull running 6s I don't think the stock esc can handle it, max voltage is 21 volts I belive.

Yeah i get that much lol. This is sad im a damn electrician and cant figure out simple power! So is the esc wired for parallel or is it wired in series? when i have 2 -7.2v batts in im running 14.4 volts then? Sorry im trying to think about this to much.

Stock ESC is wired in series, meaning if you run two 2s 5000mah lipos you will be running 4s 5000mah through the boat.

So just a reminder, although I am sure you know, do not use two 3s lipos or it will fry the ESC :)

Okay that makes alot more sense seeing as im starting to figure out the esc a little more too. Thanks. Cool so no 3s on stock stuff. lol Ill make sure i only get 2s packs.

Now as far as burst rate does that matter any? the esc says its capable of 55amp burst 45amp continuous right so i can run up to a 30c pack right? Still learning bare with me for a little while. Im like a sponge.

Glad I can help. I am no pro, just another guy who has learned as I go. You would want packs with a minimum of 25c for that boat to make sure you get the full potential out of it. From what I understand if you go higher in C rating it won't damage anything like going higher in lipo size (3s) , rather in this case, the ESC only pulls what the Motor needs, so if you don't need 30c it won't pull it. I have been told go as high as you care to spend, as later down the road if you upgrade and need a pack with more power, you will already have it.

So any 2s packs with a 25c or greater rating will do the trick. I would also advise staying above a 4000mah..I like to stick with around 5000mah, as longer run times just mean more fun time!

Buy the highest C rating you can afford. I only say that because if you upgrade in the future, you'll be sure the packs can handle the increased currect draw.

As said above, the stock ESC is good for 45A. So as long as the packs can do that, you are fine. By having packs that can, for instance, discharge at 200A, that just means they will stay nice and cool, since you are only pulling 45A.

The motor, depending on how it's loaded (how much prop is on it), is what pulls the amperage from the ESC. The ESC does not always put out 45A. It's just rated for that. So if your motor pulls above 45A for extended periods of time, you risk frying it.

It's difficult to give you a C rating, because it will also depend on the capacity of the packs. For example, a 1000mah pack at 30C will only discharge at 30A. Where a 5000mah pack at 20C will discharge at 100A. So the C rating goes hand in hand with the capacity. Highest capacity and highest C rating you can afford will ensure that you don't have to upgrade packs in the future.

Pretty sure stock BJ motor/esc can handle 6s.

I heard that the motor can but the esc can't and even so I read that you would need to disconnect the bec .

is this why I have read about others using one 2S and one 3S, because two 3S is too much?

If u run it that way one 2s and one 3s do you still have to disconnect the bec?
