7 cells NIMH in Shockwave 26 Brushless

Hi

I would like to know if some of you are running 7 cells NIMH in there Shockwave 26 brushless. If yes, is there things to check like ESC or motor to hot. Thanks.

Not close at all. Nothing is like a lipo except a lipo. Case in point I ran nimh in my SV27. On 2 6 cells around 27mph, on 2 7 cells around 33mph on 2 2s lipos 39mph. NIMH can just not compete with the discharge rate of lipos. Also NIMH can be more expensive. You can get a cheap pair of turnigy/zippies for $25-$35. Once you go to lipo you will be saying you'll never go back to 7 cells.

8 cell NIMH in Shockwave 26 Brushless

Ran my Shockwave 26RS yesterday for the first time since I upgraded to the SW 2900kv brushless motor and a Hobbywing ESC, using an Eagle Tree logger.

- With 2x 6 cell NiCds in parallel, I got 20.4 mph max speed from about 250 watts of power (6.5v @ 38-42A) using an Octura Y534 prop.
- With 2S lipo (20C 5000Ah) I got 23.6 mph max speed from about 300 watts of power (8v @ 38-40A) using an Octura X431 prop.
- With 8 cells NiMh (5000Ah Intellects) I got 25.0 mph max speed from about 400 watts of power (9v @ 44-48A) using an Octura X431 prop.

Not much increase in speed from all the extra power going into the motor! Motor temps OK - never got warm.

I ran my Blackjack 26 1st on NIMH. I was not to impressed either. I took the same boat, reset the esc with their little tool they sell you, and set is up on 4s lipo.

NIMH batteries are not able to keep up with the amp needs of a 6 pole brushless stock motor that comes with the boat. I cracked up the boat in a little pond but still use the motor in another boat. I did bump it up to a 100 amp speed control however.
