Revolt 30 - Broken transom at rudder mount

What should I do about this? There is a ding in the fiberglass on the bottom of the hull, but no serious damage to the rudder blade itself. The bottom of the rudder has some scoring from what looks like maybe sand or small gravel (from launching the boat). There are definitely no dings or bends in the rudder blade. The problem is the transom cracked where the rudder brackets bolt on. There is a split from the servo arm boot, to almost the turn fin bracket. The brass bolt is still in the rudder blade, and is not damaged. I believe it's a flaw that the hull is weaker than the bolt itself.

I called AQ and they offered to have me send the boat in for inspection but I'm afraid they'll see the bottom of hull damage and deny a warranty. The rep told me I could try repairing it myself first, but being my first hull repair I have no idea where to start. I dont believe the break is all the way through, but the hull is definitely weak in that area now.

Does anyone have suggestions on where to go from here or have any similar experience?

Take a few pictures of bottom of the hull and of the rudder assy. Picture doesn't show enough....I think I know what happen,but more pic's would help..

looks like the rudder hit something and the transom is damaged. probably be best to pull the hardware and reinforce the inside of the transom and possibly tho outside as it looks weakened from the rudder bracket

That happen to me. Easy fix, take all the hardware off, some 30min epoxy, sandpaper, and paint. Faster then sending it back. You'll be back on the water in a day. For the speed this boat travel, the transom is a little weak and the rudder assy is very unforgiving.

Can I get away with just epoxy on the inside? Not big on painting my 2 week old revolt quite yet..

I believe the damage isn't all the way through, more or less a gel coat break with maybe the first layer of fiberglass

Here is a pic of the rudder blade, it has some minor dings but nothing that looks serious enough to break the transom.

The nick in the gelcoat on the bottom (pic #3 in previous post) was there before the last run where i found the broken transom.

Rudder looks fine, just file it. You can just epoxy the inside plug all the holes

So I take all the hardware off and plug all the holes than pour in the epoxy while having the boat stand up vertically?

How should I go about plugging up the servo rod hole/boot?

Just use tape on the outside of transom to cover the holes, then re-drill when repair harden. Might want to add some LT. F/G cloth, cut a piece about 1" wide and 3" long and fold length wise and put it where the inside of the transom and deck meet, with the Z-poxy , you'll get a stronger repair.

Man this has got me nervous. I still dont quite understand how I should plug the servo rod hole/boot. If I remove that boot, it will be damaged and need to be replaced, is that correct?

I bought 30min epoxy, and a roll of 1" wide fiber cloth. Would the repair be strong enough if I just put the cloth in there and "paint" the epoxy mix over it and let it dry?

Find out from OSE, if he has this type of servo push rod Seal, I know Aeromarine Laminates carries them, you'll have to remove old one along with
the hardware to do the repairs .

There fun till they break, but this one can be fixed.

Hey cinnabun, I have a brand new set of radio box aquacraft pushrod boots that I purchased but didn't use. I think theyre the same as the transom boot. I'd be happy to send them to you free of charge if you don't want to make an order for one part.

I think I was able to save mine, I'll let you know slowhd.

I layed a few layers of glass cloth on the whole transom and coated each layer with 30min epoxy.

Also did the motor mount blocks while I was at it.
