I tried while waiting for my lipos to come in and here's the good news and bad news.Originally posted by speedfreak View Posti can get 2 4200 mah nihm batteries for $60. i don't know if i am able to use those or am i limited to only lipo batteries.. thanks
Good news: You can, I used both 7.2 & 8.4 nimh in mine (once again got impatient waiting for lipo's)
Bad news: Boat would not get on plane by itself (needed to be hand launched) & performance was not good at all.
Stick to lipos on this boat, and for $60 this is a much better purchase. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=9509 Hopefully this helps.Last edited by Diesel6401; 03-18-2010, 11:58 PM.

Some info,
The UL-1 was designed around Round cells. We then made the switch to lipo after the hull molds were mostly done. Truth is the boat is very "at home" with round cells in it. BUT.. the new 60amp esc needs to have at least 12 happy volts passing through it or the stutter bump will be activated.
IF” you want to run round cells do so with two 7 cell packs and keep the prop in the 60mm pitch range (no more).
I don’t still launch with a lifting prop!
