The H series props are an older series and still favored in the nitro and smaller (P Spec class)
    of hydros. (namely riggers.)

The cleavers are a smaller area and raked prop and are used for a bit more lifting and greater
speed compared to the standard (say, 1600, 1700, ect.) 2 bladed props.

The ABC series of props are more efficient than the Octuras as I have found out.

I did alot of work with them when the newer (red head) CMB Valvola 21 motor was released back on 2006. Found alot of great smaller props that they worked on for me to test and give feed back on.

I can go on and on with them, but they are great props and are very hard to beat.

Carl, As you know three blade props are used sparingly by the FE community. I assume because of increased amp draw. In what applications are thee blades appropriate and what charateristics differentiate them from two blade props???

was thinking the 1716 and 1816 ,or what pitch should i be going for 1.4,1.6,or 1.8 ??

the H5 is a good choise and so is the 1614/3 blade chopper that ABC carries.
you can also start out with the 1714 as well.

the 3 bladed props also have a decreased torque effect on the boat as well.

the Actual cleaver props are best left to the hydros. (3 bladed ones that is.)

the 2 bladed LISTED cleaver props are really nice. (both for monos and hydros)

unlike Octura, ABC has progressive pitches for each series of props.
            (this is a great thing!!!)

set your strut with a max. of 0.5 degree neg. and hit the water.

            hope this helps.

also, remember, each boat is different from another one built the same.
you have to experiment and find out what prop is best suited for your requirements.
there is no one prop that will give you exactly what you are looking for
until you start trying things out.

great ,gonna try a backcut H5

also whats a good starter for a
32 inch cat with feiago 7xl 2073 kv on 4s ,currently using oct m445 with good results but want to try abc prop for the progressive pitch ,

so i understand progressisive pitch is like cupping a prop so you get a prop that has a 1.4 to 1.6 pitch all in the same prop ,best for speed and corners ??

High pitch = high load on motor.
octura16xx series loads motor higher than 14xx
16xx at xyz rpm gives more propelled speed than 14xx same rpm
ABC progressive rate 1.4 -->1.6 loads like octura 14xx but pushes like 16xx.
ABC uses less power than 16xx due less water collected per blade... but push is closer to 16xx due pitch increase on exit.

note I do not specify any particular abc Vs octura because cut and cup make a lot of diff.. this is a broad description.

                    umm
                    weight of boat ?
depth of prop at plane ?
                    skeg on stryt,?
does the cat air out, or run wet ?
you want time, sprint or handling.. rare to get all 3.

Start with a abc 1616 then try the 1716.

                      Look up www.abcprops.com

                      then click on prop chart.

you will see the pitch progressions for every series prop on that chart.

                      good info there.

on the ABC series of props, (if you got one handy) you will see an increased section right on the trailing edge of the blades.
this little section comes out to be between 4.29 to 4.43 inches of added trailing edge pitch.
this gives the abc props their extra kick when they really start to rev up.
They can also load a motor down (amps shooting through the roof) if the series and selection is not really correct.

that is why you NORMALLY chose a series with less diameter and pitch to start with, then work you way up.

                      hope this helps.
