What should I do?

I am seriously contemplating totally getting out of RC. I was trying to figure out how much better off I would be to totally finish both the 67 Bardahl 1/16th scale i have and the dropped sponson micro hydro I am also working on. I got lots of stuff to sell off if I decide to but the main point is if I want to finish off the two boats before liquidating everything I have.

Don't want to race anymore and no one to run with either. I am just don't seem to be interested enough to ev en finish the boats even though the 1/16th bardahl is like 95 percent done.

I was there and I know how you feel. Perhaps you just need a break. Or try to get someone interested in FE so you can have someone to race with.

I guess Racing can take a toll on you and if you dont have anyone to run with that can suck also.... well good luck to you and i will be watching the swapshop..........

Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo...the Jimmiester. (Not sure why old saturday night live crap just hit me) I run so little it is stupid for me to even be in it. I do like making the parts to see what can be done and probably these boards help me stay somewhat focused on what I know I like to do.

I just now found someone else to run with and I still have little time to go meet up to run. I did a week ago and was a blast. For 6 years all I ever did was go run alone and then took the boys but even they do not have that much interest in them. There is some solitude in it....a man always needs that.

I bought my son a little Hobby Zone super cub plane for his birthday (very sweet little plane) and now I am getting a real itch to fly some planes. He has not let me behind the controls yet...tells me I am a beginner and he will show me...10 years old and telling his dad that. But I know I will crash the damn thing :)

Instead of running across town to a lake I have about 400 acres of field out my front door so it is very easy for me to do this and watching him get better and better and doing loops and buzzing us is a lot of fun....maybe just the risk of crashing is half the excitement.

I have the RC trucks that never get run either...nitro and electric.

Just back out of it for a bit and enjoy your great skill of photography...oviously that is your first love....chill and regroup in a while...no biggie. If you don't find your interest back then ditch it until you do again. One thing you will always have is experience to do it again if you want.

It is easy to build boats and play...gets cheaper and faster every damn 6 months!

You might just finish the Bardahl and use it for display. Sell everything else. If you ever get the itch to run again, you have a beautiful boat to run. If you don't you still have a beautiful boat to display.

Jim, I say... what about submarines? how about hovercraft? a hydrofoil? I once tried a rocket with pontoons.... it did a ground loop and almost took out dad and me...

I know it can seem lonely and uninspiring to run by yourself, maybe even worse after racing (I wouldn't know). I agree take a break, and if it comes down to it, people can change and live through it... good luck and follow your heart.

I've been finding planes very very addicting myself. Just joined the local small club and been learning lots really fast. They can be very exciting to fly!

tough call, tharmer has a good suggestion... whatever you choose i wish ya the best...

i m a 2 year newb to this game... i run by myself 85% of the time... have a mate with a nice OM21 to run with occasionally... not nearly enough... while i d rather run with / against someone i still enjoy the challenge of changing water conditions... i use the number of small points and bays here to choose if i want to run in chop or glass... keeps me tuning, guessing somewhat and... perhaps sane .. as jeff pointed out, the solitude is also what i love about the hobby / passion / sport ?? the winter days here in northern mexico - sorry CA when everyone is inside and the wind chop is unmolestered by boat wakes is what i enjoy the most..

I have felt your "nobody to run with" pain so I changed what I was doing with fe and it gave my interest a kick start. I switched from oval to saw boats. I've been going to Valdosta for the past couple years (even went to Huntsville to watch the gas guys run) to watch, take notes and pictures, ask questions, and put a face to a screen name. Saw racing may not be for you but then again it might be. Give it a thought before you punch out. Just my 2 cents. I imagine the drive to LA is beautiful!!!

Ive been there many times as well. If it wasnt for this web site and the great guys on it.....along with the chase for speed i would have stopped this crazy addiction along time ago. I am there aswell with my real street/race car i drive. You get burned out and the people you do it with seem to drift away slowly but surely and your limited to who and where you go anywhere with to race or have fun with. Changing times i guess.

Jim with your skills and the lower cost of spec racing I think you need to get back in to 1/10 fast scale hydroplane racing, they cost just about the same to buld and run, if you build it yourself as an SSH boat. Organized racing is much more enjoyable then run of the mill pond pounding, which gets kind of boring quiclky IMO.

Don't sell off your equipment. Take a brake. Selling off your stuff will help you recoup some of the cash spent but if you get the bug later on it will cost you a lot more to replace what you already had. I'm in that boat right now. Buying new gear along with making the switch to FE is costing more than expected and slowing the builds down. Just my opinion.
