I will have to pull up the post but I read over on RC groups that Castle doesn't want us to use a anti-spark device on their controllers. I really can't remember the reason why but when I find the post I will copy it here.
Just another reason why the Cheap ESC's are looking better and better

I really can't. I was just standing there in the pits at the Valdosta SAWs a couple of years ago and watched two of them smoke.

I called them and this is what i was told. "The spark/crack you see is normal. This is telling you all is well with the hydra and it has pwered up. You can put a resistor in line stop this from happening if you want, but it is not needed."Originally posted by Raydee View PostI will have to pull up the post but I read over on RC groups that Castle doesn't want us to use a anti-spark device on their controllers. Maybe not but it will extend the life of the connectors as they will not be mucked up from the arcing at plug-in.Originally posted by Gary View PostI called them and this is what i was told. Definetly. They also told me to connect the wires very quickly as this can also prevent problems. Hell ya !! I do this only because with 25 volts it looks to be a nasty jolt that i dont want!!LOLPT-45, 109mph, finally gave up after last bad crash

..would just like to share that I also smoked a Hydra 120 on the bench after plugging only one 2s 5000mah 7.4v.
seemed to have arched in two spots within the controller. I emialed CC and had a reply back within hours from Joe Ford. Very impressed with the customer service so far. They will be sending me another one out as I send mine back to avoid any lengthy delay. Again, excellent customer service from CC and ill keep you posted.

Ray, look at what happened to AndyM on like his 3rd run. I felt so bad because he got it from me. I traded him the controller for his Whip 20 fully loaded with Neu 1515 and a CC240LV. He smoked his HV sent it in got a new one and got rid of the new one. I like Castle products but am a little gun shy. Has anyone tried the Etti HV200 that you know of? It looks to be a big controller.* BBY Lift Master RIgger * Insane Gen 2 Cat * Aeromarine Avenger Pro Twin * Delta Force Cyber Storm * Delta Force 41" Mono * H&M Viper II * H&M Intruder * OSE Raider Hydro * Whiplash 20 * Brushless Mini Rio *

I have beat the crap out of the LV controllers for quite a while now but the HV controllers ...EVEN on 6s seem to have some problems. I may sell my HV controller and buy a Schulze 24.150 instead. The problem is the boating community knows the HV controllers are messed up and they will stay away from them.Team Liquid Dash

Well lets see.. I ran a hydra 120 in my N2 sport for 3 seasons and never had any problems with it, until I decided to update the firmware to 1.04 for the Michigan Nats it ran fine at the Nats. I got back home 2 races later no more Hydra 120, I ran the same prop same batteries etc etc. It dont matter what you buy they are all going to fry!

Tyler, is the SS100 compatible with pistol type transmitters?Originally posted by tylerm View PostFor 27$, i think the SS100A is a blimin good esc
Ray, please do! I am really interested as of why it should not be done.Originally posted by Raydee View PostI will have to pull up the post but I read over on RC groups that Castle doesn't want us to use a anti-spark device on their controllers. Also, I think that your Cuda may have burned up with the 1.04 software due to incompatibilities, perhaps?
I have used LV120's, LV240's, HV180's, cheapos and the 240's in my opinion are the most "reliable" from CC.Originally posted by Raydee View PostI have a brand spanking new CC Hydra 240HV sitting here but I am a little scared to solder it up and put it in my Sport 40.
HA! Like Nitro boats don't have issues... it boils down to what type of problems you can handleOriginally posted by Drag Boat Bob View PostHoly Crap... A single spark and the truth flows like a river...

Guys the quote " A boat is a hole in the water you throw money in " is the best description I have heard yet !!
Yes I have smoked a CC240HV on 8s , pity really as the CC240LV's I have are bloody good gear and handle A LOT of abuse. Have one that is over 2 years old and has been logged at peaks over 240 amps and still works as good as the day it was purchased!
Have had a few cheaper esc and all have smoked eventually. I think go with the best you can afford at the time and run within the limits of your gear. Since I have started thinking this way I have saved money through less breakages and am enjoying my boating more whether FE or my gasser.
Cheers
