RCU Threads...

I used to frequent RCU too. A year or so ago there were always a few guys (Taylor, Saleens7, Quicksilver to mention a couple...) sharing really solid knowledge and experience. I'd say that forum originally had some of the best tips for a beginner trying to run an SV27, and still has some of the best jet-conversion info around...but I stopped finding info that wasn't already covered better here or on RRR.
RRR has been the home of knowledgable boat guys sharing advice for eons...you still find experts over there that don't share on here and vice versa, so both have their value, but either way the focus is/has been boats and there're just more experts and expert advice on OSE and RRR than RCU.

I have found FE boaters to be a special breed. I used to run nitro boats years ago and gave it up because of the 'boneheads'. I used to race airplanes years ago and gave it up because of the 'boneheads'. Now I'm a sport flyer and an FE boater. Everybody helps each other and truly enjoys their hobby. FE guys are really special. They remember what they had to go through to learn FE and they want to share it. When I raced nitro, everything was a 'secret'! DOH!

Enjoy the hobby. We are all here to help you. Don't be afraid to ask. No such thing as dumb questions here. We were all there at one time!

If you would like to run into true boneheads, go to the popular rc heli forum on the web and you will see it in every thread. I have just recently gotten into FE boats and on this board. I have throughly enjoyed reading things that are actually informative without all of the ego involved.

Maybe there are a different class of folks on this forum.............at least so far that is what I have experienced.

Unfortunately I think RCU has become populated by people that think they know a lot when they really don't. I've seen some of the worst advice on there...just totally wrong. It's terrible to give a new guy bad information. It will destroy their passion for the hobby. I quit going to RCU about 2 years ago.

I just have to ask this question, weather i'm in trouble for it or not (sorry in advance to anybody that I am offending...)

It seems like whenever I go on that site and try to help out another fellow boater (following the very FIRST post), The car/boater guys will wait till someone answers and try to slam the first reccomendation down!!! WTF!!! I know I am not the only person on here that feels this way...

but its like that almost everywhere. Just the other day i was i my local HS. and there resident electric expert he is a car guy that races it the local track. was talking to a customer. i usually don't pay him much attention but i heard the word boat so it got me interested. so i went over and listened then i started talking to them. I come to find out he was building a 36inch scale boat and he has already burned up 3 motors. So i start to ask the set up. cells, Kv, & #poles. and then the expert tells me brushless motors don't have poles and he was sick of people say that they do and that they also don't have magnets. i was at a loss for a second. at first i thought he was messing with me but no he was serious. So i said yes they do. hes says no they don't. then asks me how many poles are in the motor they are talking about. I say i have no idea. but a UL-1 or SV is a 6 pole motor. hes tells me its not. i say ok. So i walked him over to the brand new in the box UL-1 and point to the box where it says 6 pole brushless motor. and ask him to read it. He had no response. The sad thing is this guy sells this stuff all day and just tells stories after stories to folks that just don't now any better

Yep. Hobbytown here is like that. Bunch of no nothing losers. Guess that's all they can find for $8/hour. Too bad.

I love asking questions on this site, becuase I don't like spending extra cash on burnt parts because of bad advise!

I remember - it was almost 2 years ago and you gave me hell for still using brushed motors. Best advice I have had in a long time.
