Rick is it a ex or IV? If its a IV than you can switch to the ex motors and ex esc, it will run around 20mph or so. the problem is that its a $150 conversion. For a bit more money you can buy a Supervee 27 and have a fiberglass boat with metal hardware and run about 30mph.Steven Vaccaro

I agree with steven on this one....the Villan is a great basher boat, but its pretty outdated. Buying a Supervee 27 or similar product would, despite being slightly more costly, be much more worth the investment......saleens7, the wookie of rc boating

Well depending on the conditions the SV27 may be more prone to flipping, but then again, they are two different types of hulls.....Originally posted by Tony View PostIsn't the SV27 flips over more often than the Traxxas Villian EX?
The SV27 has a shallower vee, while the Villan has a deeper vee....this would mean that the Villan can handle choppier water better than the SV, but then the SV can handle speeds higher than what the Villain can in most cases....saleens7, the wookie of rc boating

My Villian EX has never flipped and I have done some stupid things like way too sharp turns, all I see is a big splash, give it gas and it is going again. The villian is no way as fast as the sv27 but for a good, safe runner, and handles chop like a champ, I like it and it brings down the adrenalin rush from my bj26, and then a beer

I got tired of my SV27 always being on her back. That's why I don't have one anymore.Originally posted by saleens7 View PostWell depending on the conditions the SV27 may be more prone to flipping, but then again, they are two different types of hulls.....

Hi Rick.
In answer to your original question, I would try a couple of Speed 600 motors.
They are relatively cheap & being geared down will run fairly efficiently & give you more revs at the prop than the 550 motors.
Cheers.
