Every time new cell chemistry comes out, first thing I do is figure out it's energy density. Currently, Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries have much lower energy density per unit of weight compared to regular Lithium Polymer batteries. No big deal for cars, but big deal for boats and planes. From my rough calculations:

MaxAmps 2S2P 6500 mAh 7.4V LiPo = (1 / 0.327Kg) * 7.4V * 6.5Ah = 147 Wh/Kg
MaxAmps 2S2P 4500 mAh 6.6V LiFePo4 = (1 / 0.32Kg) * 6.6V * 4.5Ah = 93 Wh/Kg

So, starting off with brand new LiFe pack is like using old and abused LiPo pack at 63% of it's original energy storage capacity. In other words, if my boat had 6 pounds of LiPo, then I will need 9.5 pounds of LiFe battery to match the run time. Pretty big deal to me, that's why i went away from A123 cells to LiPo for my boat. The change in runtime and handling was amazing.

How many cycles you getting out of those LiPos before they drop voltage and or capacity?

Enough that changing over to heavier bulkier cells isn't worth it ??
Heck I can barely fit my lipos in most of my boats let alone a bigger payload with less energy density

Casey and I figured we got 200+ cycles on our first sets of LiPos, this includes SAWs. (4900s 25c)

The cells that impress me right now are the Hyperion VX G3 5500 35c. These cells absoluty rock in my P-Mono and come in 30 degrees cooler than any cells I have run in the past.

Yes I hear many good things about the exclusive G3 LiPolys. Also heard that FP is using the same cells.

No doubt the G3 is the hot deal at this point. My hobby shop guy is trying to get hooked up with them so I can get some at a decent price.

Nothing can beat the lipo at this point for power and weight but I certainly welcome anything safer. Most of the issues in the past that have given the lipo an unsafe name has been user issues.

Not hearing much now about burning down cars and houses. Chargers are better with much better fail safes buit in and most others are not leaving their homes with chargers plugged in to cells. Even round cells I was never dumb enough to do things like that. Just can't educated dumb people.

So what is the realy bad *** battery set up on 10 or 12s (up to 50v) ?
Need to have a desent run time on a Lehner 3080 in a large mono.
Is there something new coming that can give us a realy high current, good run time set up? The $ is not my first concern. Power, run time and weight is in that order.
You gurus please let me know

Chill dude, I was not being serious...LiPoly will be around until someone's child burns up in a fire...don't worry, it has not happened yet.

Won't happen...what do you think Apple uses in i-Pods (I just changed the battery in mine) and i-Phones...any battery will explode if you abuse them...how many times have have car batteries exploded when improperly charged...they haven't been "outlawed"...chill dude.
