One thing that I had to make my IC friends at the club understand is that we can't run our boats as wet as they do. 'We'll burn up our carburators" lol
I like to find that fine line between being too loose, and being JUST tight enough to finish races. Like you said, "you got to do your time on the water"

one thing i noticed in your pik is that you dont have any space between your drive dog and the strut. youll need a small gap

It's and old picture and was taken before the boat was ever put in the water. I always do a 1/8" gap. Good eye though! Juvinile peeing alien stricker also removed. Lets just say it would have been offensive to the nitro guys.

I always start with the strut even with the keel and at zero degrees. I play around with the CG by moving the batteries fore and aft. Next, try different props. Finally, fine tune the strut. If I have trim tabs, I leave them at neutral to start. Seems to shorten the setup time for me. May be different for you. Gosh knows I ain't no barn burner!
