Need The How 2s For Putting CF Cloth In My Boat

Can you tell me what to ask for and what type of vendor carries this epoxy? Also what do you mean by a 5/1 ratio in mixing. The only epoxy I have ever used was equal parts in the mixing process.

Also, how does one keep the edges from raveling during the install process that requires a person to spread the epoxy out over it. I have found with glass work the cloth wants to ravel along the edges and can make quite a mess. Pics on this site of many of your boats inside show a very clean edge when finished, I would like to have that when finished.

Not a problem. I was on a short fuse anyway. I do the same thing. Things often come off different when writen as apposed to being said.
Back to the topic at hand
The stuff I use is called Clear-N-Simple made by NHP Co its epoxy finishing resin. I buy it at the LHS.

I'm pretty sure he said to use hairspray in the edges....sounds like a great idea because i was wondering the same thing....the darn CF allways wants to unravel...I will try this the next time

this is a good thread,like i said very new to fibreglassing my self.
the guy i get my cloth from said the best way to do c/f was to lay it on a panel of glass or perspex and use a pice of plastic or paint brush to push the epoxy in to the cloth, then use the plastic like a sqeegee and squeese out as much epoxy as you can then lay the c/f in the hull for some reason this is what i thought he said was pre preg . he showed me some hulls he had done this way, very light and strong.
i would like to try this way but think it would be very hard to lay it in a hull with out it sticking to its self or parts of the boat and leaveing epoxy on places you dont want

Curt, Z-Poxy is laminating epoxy.Most hobby shops have it. Thin yet very hard when dry. Sorry I did not jump in on your first request. Watch thinning anything as some will never harden like you would expect.

I tried it in a mono hull and was not happy with the way it was coming out. This is just my experience with it. I now use epoxy i got from the local auto body paint shop it is much thinner and easier to work with and the dry time is is a few hours.

Great idea! I have a auto body paint shop that supplies all my base coat/clearcoat stuff for my gas boat building. Will call them in the morning.
