Cool Tool

A "Cool Tool "for changing Motor Mount Sceews. Credits to Pete Boyle for the design. A friend of mine is making a few. attached ( I hope ) is a pic of the prototype . A short piece of fuel tubing makes it easy to replace motor mount screws . Anyone interested ?

Meniscus , thats what started this . I'd have given $ 100 for one last week when I was installing a motor in a P rigger. I was going to crudely build one. A machinist friend is out of work , looking for a project. The rest is history.
He thinks he can make them for $ 20 + shipping. I think he is going to post a site here soon.

If you turn the knurled knob on one end , the 2.5 mm hex will turn on the other ens . What do you do with your left over flex cable ?

Introduction

Hi Guys. My name is Ward and my ears are burning! You guys apparently like the tool. In any case, the description is accurate. The overall length is just under 7 inches long and about 2 inches from the tip of the hex to the back of the tube. From what Flyguy55 tells me it should fit even the tight boats. The hex is turned by a flex shaft inside the brass tubing by the knurled knob on the top. The knob is cross drilled for an 1/8" cheater bar. The flex shaft is retained by a set screw so it can be removed and relubed if necessary. It comes with lithium grease applied. I've attached a picture of the final tool as well.

The original tool is a 2.5mm hex and it appears that there will be a 7/64" hex and a small Philips driver as options. The tools sell for $20 plus shipping. Flyguy55 will have some at the WWV in Arizona if you'd like to save the shipping.

For now, the best would be to send me a PM to order one, I accept PayPal and ship Priority Mail usually the same day I receive payment. I'm a modeler too and I know how much I hate to wait.

Brilliant. It would be nice if the tips can be changeable to accept various hex,philips screw, nuts etc..This tool is definately needed

The great thing about this tool is that you can single hand with it while installing a motor. The other hand is then free to hold/place the motor. Pete Boyle made them back in '02 when I/we were complaining about the difficulties of installing a motor in a Blizzard rigger. You can hold it like you would a water bottle and simulate the screwing/unscrewing of the top with your thumb and index finger.

It's the most worn out tool in my box. Figuring out a way to get variable sizes/heads without adding too much to the horizontal dimension would be a great bonus. But, for now my main benefit for this tool is for motor installation.

I bought myself one of these http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-575-Rig.../dp/B00005AXI0 for my Dremel a while ago to drill motor-mount holes in stringers and it works great as well. It should work well for motor-screws too if you modify the bit a bit.
