Hmm.., now that you mention it, there was an older gent in the pits at the NAMBA Nat's last year who kept talking about some "secret" batteries used by the military that are way ahead of lipo's. I've heard of such batteries as well, and their lack of flamability, hopefully these things are cheap and good!!My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

I think it is a result of the silver content, not to mention new technology. However, when I get a few vendors to respond, I'll run both ends against the middle and do a bulk order. Perhaps that will help with cost :)

So far I have not seen anything that would indicate that they are suitable for anything other than very low current applications.......
If the military is still using them and wants no-one else to have them, then its unlikely the hobby, or any other industry will see them anytime soon in any capacity that would do us any good.

No one said that they do not want anyone else to have them. They have just been in small production runs until now. I'm hoping they'll expand production so that we can get our hands on them.
There was a request for specs and so I provided what I could put my hands on readily. There are higher current versions.

Zpower has developed rechargable batteries that will be offered in a "MAJOR MANUFACTURER'S" laptops this year. So I would think that this technology will move fairly quickly into other arenas as well. The only thing is going to be cost as Zpower is going to have a trade in process to recover the silver and help offset costs.IMPBA 20481S D-12Comment

Silver Zinc cell were been used in fe 40 years ago in Naviga speed classes in Europe up till the time they were banned in the 1990's because of their cost . They have military uses like electric torpedos but the developement there is to Lithium based cells.Here a link to Saft.

The cells were made by Saft, I do have some photos and magazine articles on them somewhere so I'll try and find them. There was a boat that set a IMPBA record in 1969 that used Yardney cells, they still make AgZn cells.
There also was an electric car built in the 1960's by GM called the Electrovair II

This is an interesting thread, as battery technology seeks the best resolution. Who ever finds the Holy Grail will be a very wealthy person. As all existing technologies have their Achilles Heel.

Unfortunately, I believe that all of the technologies will have their drawbacks, that is until we have a chemical reaction that generates the energy in a controlled environment.
Yes, my next FE boat will be powered by Fusion.....or Plasma. I haven't decided yet
