That's my favorite thus far, LMAO.

So, is this a handheld patent? Or trailor-sized?

I know that I've noticed in a few places, that have more trees and thus more runoff of, I think its called Tanic acid from those leaves that fall, that the water seems to be faster. Now, I would attribute that to PH, but I'm not chemist. Another thought is aerated ponds that have fountains, but I can't make any conclusions there from my experience.

What other recurring trends might these fast or slow bodies of water have in common? Care to share your experiences?

I think this may be alluding to something that happens in all competitive sports. The folks with the most money win. It starts as a back yard low budget venture for fun and ends with several engineers and expensive testing to win. For example the swamp buggy races started with homemade contraptions that used a motorcycle engine and ended with $250,000 custom made vehicles with special wings and foils to fly over the sippy holes. The money and high tech equipment killed the sport. I for one will probably never enter a sanctioned race for this very reason.

I've seen and participated in numerous races, gas and electric, where the big $ boats didn't get near the podium. A good example is my first season racing gas. I took 2nd place in our Grand Prix Series in OPEN HYDRO with $300.00 worth of parts I put in a worn out Stryker Cat.
It takes more skill than money to win races. The riggers and Sport Hydros were much faster than my cat.
Honestly the key is to have a well setup boat, get on the clock (nail the start) get, and stay in lane one, and FINISH ALL YOUR HEATS. Sounds easy huh? Too much fun!!!
If you have never been to a sanctioned race you are REALLY missing out.
If you get the opportunity, go check it out, I guarentee you you'll have a blast and the admission is free. Who knows, you may have a change of heart.

I would like to watch some races but there aren't any in the mid atlantic that I know of. I have watched some 1/8 gas boats on a course but it was friendly competition and they all had at least $1000.00 invested. I loved to watch them but I can't afford to spend that kind of money. The UL-1 is the most that I have spent for a boat to date. I have a kyosho hurricane that I painted (I it got through a barter deal) and which I have switched to brushless but the majority of the parts were given to me or I bought used from the swap shop. The props I use I have done myself. Some props I have done for other folks and that has helped a great deal in financing the campbell shovel that I have been working on for several months now as time permits.

What about just comparing your amp and speed readings from your home lake to the lake you are visiting. If there is a difference in the water drag, it should show up and catalog the differences in this data to catagorize your lakes, instead of analyzing the water content?

I am in Va Bch, Va. There is a IMPBA club (ODMBA) but these are the gas guys and even though the web site says they welcome FE in fact they don't. When we come by all they have to say is "I thought you electric guys ran at trashmore". Trashmore is where the scale boat club (Elite Fleet - which I am a member) run and they don't want FE either (The rules require reverse). This is why we have started an informal club - fast electric motor boats of tidewater (F.E.M.B.O.T).

So have you asked the NAMBA guys about a club in your area yet? District 1 has the oldest NAMBA electric club, and a lot of the guys run both. There are a few electric guys up in Laurel, MD and west of DC as well.
