So much for X-mas '08

Told myself to be nice and not spoil Christmas for every body else with my gripes…well now that Christmas ‘08 is winding down…its my time to complain!
When I heard the news that aqua craft was going to release the ‘UL-!’ I was pretty stoked and when I was asking at the lhs if they could get it for me (mid October) I was thinking that it would make a neat Christmas present for me. I still thinking that in mid December when they went and ordered a second one just to make sure that I would get one… I was of course thinking Christmas ‘08 not ‘09
Slow boat from china, what they do put it on a row boat (with only one oar)? Still there is twelfth night coming up that they might make. What did I find under my Christmas tree? Not a boat, just the words nope it didn’t come in yet. I’m thankful that I didn’t have to explain that to a child, and I suppose that it is nice that IF my boat ever gets here I can zip right through the prep knowing just which things have been found needing attention. While it would be nice to think that all that extra time is being used to ensure a trouble free boat…I rather doubt that is the case.
So what have I learned from this so far? That the message ‘support your lhs’ is a crock…more like ‘Screw your lhs! Order direct from tower hobbies!’
For those kind people who are trying to discourage my lhs from carrying aqua craft boats BAH HUMBUG!

To bad they cant make them here in the US. Whats with that anyway. I would rather buy Euro stuff and build myself. I dont think personally that I will own one. The SV had many complications and just didnt do it for me. Everyone is different though.

As you gain more life experience you will be able to answer that question for yourself. A similar product made in the USA would likely retail for around $450. Labor and overhead would be the chief cost drivers. As for quality - considering what Detroit is selling these days I wouldn't expect anything better.

well at least you dont have to use aussie dollars,as it is at the moment it is to dear to buy anything in from the U.S as the price is nearly double so i havent been able to building my twin motor cat this christmas as parts are to expensive

Oh boy, I dont need anymore "life experience" to answer that. There are still many many old school Americans around that care about what they produce and who remember who they are producing it for. I guess I am still stuck there. It is a well designed boat and there will be many coming to flood the market soon.

At least on the subject of Detroit or any industry that produces products within our borders... Whether it's "Joe The Plummer" or a union autoworker at $29/hour; it costs the "Big Three" $65/hr to pay for all the benefits and pension plans for the retired 300,000 autoworkers. Mechanics discovered the inherent problems years ago. When confronted with high gas prices, they didn't retool the huge SUVs even back then, but instead, they gave us $1.99 gas contract for 1 year. They don't and can't make money on selling cars, they make money on parts. It's called "Planned Obsolescence." And now, ironically, most parts will be coming from China anyway...

"The Greatest Generation" of individuals in WWII were able to retool Detroit to make military equipment in just 7 months under government mandate! It's been done before when it was needed, but it can't be done under the current spoiled leadership. Detroit needs new management and a plan, or else they won't be able to even produce RC boats under the same leadership.

My prayers are for the thousands of people who will be losing jobs after Christmas and had nothing to do with their demise. In these darkest of hours, may God Bless America to produce the right leadership and right plan to lead us into a promising future. That is my wish for Christmas and New Year's resolution...
