Just about any sport 40 hull will work. The phil thomas SS45 hase been run with good success. It's epoxyglass.

I am building a Whiplash .40 (36") Hydro, that will use 6S2P ans 1527/1Y... Thought about the SS45, but I wanted to build a wood kit for something new..Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!

Thanks guys. I wish I had the time to build a wooden kit, but I think I am going with the SS45. I have a DF22 Hydro and a 1/12 Llumar Hydro that are for sport use using Feigao motors. I want to build a large fast oval racer Hydro using a 1527 running 6S
Hey, TX, good luck on the Whiplash Hydro. I've seen pictures of Ray's and it looks great. I keep vacillating whether I should go with a 1527/1.5D or 1Y on a 36in hydro... ... At some point, both. I believe that building sport hydros are the necessary "training wheels" to build a successful outrigger. Since knowledge and experience is cumulative, a SAW outrigger would be my "final" build in this hobby. I've read up quite a bit on outrigger design and operation, but still feel I have a ways to go. In the meantime, I am going to exhaust the possibilities of sport hydros... Impressive boats! Any future build will have to revolve around using 1521 or 1527 motors. Real training wheels are Monos then the Cats or OPC, then sport/Scale hydros and you right the Riggers are on the top.Comment

I am running a 1521 in the sport 40 I went 81.1MPH a year ago on the first time out, it is 36 inches long I am running a 1527 .5 in my oval rigger average speed 67MPH, 34 inches long these were all done with 4S and the oval was done with 2P. It could be a little longer with different sponson placement. The SAW boat is 41 inches and has the same tub.Originally posted by 10gauge View PostComment
