Actually stainless hardware tends to be weaker than proper steel hardware. For instance the 4-40 steel screws I use for shock towers are 170,000psi, that's the max Mcmaster sells in black oxide steel which is essentially Grade 8. Their normal 18-8 SS screws are only 70,000psi, but they do come in 130k and 160k for shorter lengths. The only down side is Mcmaster only sells in larger lots, so make sure you buy the correct item first!

It will all be crap if it's cheap china hardware.

if you are doing mainly Salt Water running , i would suggest the use of good Stainless grub screws and removable locktie. doesn,t take long before the black steel grubs get rusty in the salt.

Correct, black steel grub screws are harder than s/s. S/S ones will tend to round off fairly easy, damaging the allen key at the same time. Personally, and professionally, I recommend sticking with black steel grub screws and loctite them in place. Heat loctite with a lighter or small gas torch to sften the loctite for removal. Don't reuse damaged grub screws to save yourself later grief.

Use Locktite Blue and don't put so much "daddy tight" on them

any hardened steel grub screw plus the correct size allen key should last without any rounding off.

Growing tired of stripped out grub screws, benefit of changing to stainless?
18-2, 302, 316, etc.......
I got more hex keys than I shake a stick at, still rounding out.
